As restrictions are being eased in some states in the US including restaurants and stores in most parts of Florida, some countries are extending their lockdowns.
Prime Minister Shinzo Abe has just extended his nationwide state of emergency declaration until May 31st for every prefecture in Japan.
Tokyo Disneyland Resort closed on February 29th after Japan’s Prime Minister requested all big events, gatherings, or sporting events be canceled. He later declared a state of emergency on April 7th for seven prefectures in Japan, before expanding it to the entire country on April 16th.
According to the Japan Times, Abe has now extended this order until May 31st, but is cautiously optimistic about lifting some restrictions soon. “We determined that one month will be necessary to improve the strained health care system by keeping the number of new patients low while facilitating more patients to be discharged,” Abe stated.
Abe also said he would consider lifting the order sooner if the number of cases declined and medical resources weren’t as stretched thin as they are currently. “The coming month is one where we will aim to resolve the state of emergency and view it as a preparatory period toward the next step,” Abe said.
Currently, Tokyo Disneyland’s website still states, “the reopening of the Parks, which had been planned for April 20 or beyond, has been extended further. The reopening date will be determined in mid-May.” We’ll continue to follow this developing story and provide more details as soon as they’re released!
