To ensure we are equipping our readers with all the information they need, we will continue to report on all travel, safety, and COVID-related news that could impact a Disney Parks visit.
We’ve been keeping an eye on COVID-19 related news in the areas surrounding the Disney parks.
Recently, we reported that Florida hit the milestone of 5 million reported COVID-19 cases, and Disney Cruise Line ships are now requiring vaccinations for all passengers ages 5 and older. We also noted where you can get a COVID-19 test in Central Florida right now. Now we have more news about the coronavirus and its current status in Florida.
UPDATE: These has been an update regarding Florida’s COVID-19 numbers. Look for the update below for the latest information.
According to The Palm Beach Post, Florida has dropped out of the top ten states where COVID-19 is spreading the fastest.
At the start of 2022, Florida was fourth on the list of states where COVID-19 is spreading the fastest. Last week, the state ranked fifth. This week, Florida dropped down to be number 11, pushing it out of the top ten.
The Palm Beach Post reported that “new coronavirus cases dropped in Florida in the week ending Sunday, dipping by 3.4% as 408,841 cases were reported.” This is down from 423,150 new cases last week.
Florida is one of the few states that had fewer new cases this week than the week before. Thirty-nine states in the US had more cases in the most recent week than they did the week before that.
The Post reported that Orange County (where Disney World is located) came in third for the most new cases overall in Florida, after Miami-Dade and Broward counties. Orange County reported 30,752 new cases in the latest week.
CDC data shows that Florida has about 75% of residents at least partially vaccinated, and the state administered “another 495,312 vaccine doses, including 129,643 first doses” in the last week.
UPDATE: Florida eventually dropped to number 37 on the list of states where COVID-19 is spreading the fastest. However, as of February 14th, 2022, the Palm Beach Post reports that Florida recently ranked 8th among the states in the U.S. where COVID-19 is spreading the fastest, based on data from Johns Hopkins University.
The numbers have since been updated. An article from Florida Today dated February 21st indicates that Florida recently “ranked 32nd among the states where coronavirus was spreading the fastest on a per-person basis.” We’ll be keeping an eye out for more updates.
