While Disneyland Park shuttered Toontown and announced its transformation into a “vibrant symphony of sights, sounds, and sensations,” there was another Disneyland attraction off in the distance, covered in construction tarps — seemingly forgotten.
What originally opened as Swiss Family Treehouse in 1962, Tarzan’s Treehouse was completed in 1999 and debuted alongside the Disney animated film. The attraction has been closed since September 2021, and Disneyland remained quiet about new plans for the tree — until April 2022, that is! Disney announced that Tarzan’s Treehouse will be reimagined with a NEW theme!
According to the Orange County Register, Disneyland officials have shared that Tarzan’s Treehouse will be closed to make way for a NEW attraction that will feature a different Disney character.
The treehouse itself will remain and be incorporated as part of the new theme for the attraction. Disney has not yet shared what the theme or reopening date for the reimagined attraction will be. Demolition of the entrance began on April 18th.
A long time ago, we learned that Encanto songwriter Lin-Manuel Miranda had pitched the idea for an attraction based on this hit animated movie to Disney CEO Bob Chapek — but we haven’t heard any news since. Could Tarzan’s Treehouse be getting an Encanto re-theme? It’d be awesome to visit Antonio Madrigal’s treehouse from the movie! For now, we’ll have to wait until Disney shares the plan for the replacement of Tarzan’s Treehouse, as they have not confirmed any details about the renovations.
