In February, in celebration of Black History Month, Disney Parks introduced Celebrate Soulfully, a series of entertainment offerings (and food offerings!) for Black History Month. Through Celebrate Soulfully, we got things like Soul of Jazz: An American Adventure in EPCOT, and special viewings at the Disney World hotels of movies like Soul and Remember the Titans.
June is Black Music Month, and Disneyland Resort is celebrating with all sorts of new entertainment offerings, including a returning show!
From June 1st to July 4th, guests to Downtown Disney will be able to experience The Soul of Jazz: An American Adventure! The traveling exhibit showcases the history of jazz while bringing guests on a musical tour of America. It will be located in the building adjacent to the Star Wars Trading Post.
Throughout June in Downtown Disney, you’ll hear nightly music from all sorts of genres like jazz, R&B, funk, MoTown, and Doo-Wop. On Saturday and Sunday afternoons, there will be a DJ playing a variety of music genres at the Downtown Disney LIVE! stage.
Over at Disney California Adventure you’ll be able to hear the a cappella group the Philly Phonics! They’ll be performing jazz numbers from the 1920s through to today. You’ll be able to hear them from June 1st to July 4th.
Five & Dime, one of the streetmosphere performance groups in Disney California Adventure will also be putting on shows with music from the 1920s and ’30s. You’ll also be able to see live music acts every night over at the Hollywood Backlot!
And, of course, the “Tale of the Lion King” show is returning at long last on May 28th! This show will feature music, dancing, and singing all inspired by the cultural roots of the story of The Lion King.
Disney hinted that there were more announcements to come, so make sure to stay tuned to DFB for all the latest Black Music Month news!
