The travel industry has seen its fair share of problems recently.
Gas prices have fluctuated making road trips unpredictable, while short staffing, delays, and cancelations have plagued airlines leaving travelers wondering what they’re supposed to do. But now, a historic agreement between two airlines is about to make it easier for passengers to trek around (part of) the globe!
According to PR Newswire, United Airlines and Emirates Airlines have announced an agreement that will “enhance each airline’s network and give their customers easier access to hundreds of destinations within the United States and around the world.”
There will be a direct United flight from Newark/New York and Dubai beginning in March 2023. Once there, customers are able to travel on Emirates or its partner airline flydubai to more than 100 different cities — and tickets are now on sale for United’s new Dubai flight!
Beginning this November, Emirates customers flying to Chicago, San Francisco, and Houston will be able to travel to nearly 200 cities in the United network. Most of these stops only require a one-stop connection.
There will also be an interline arrangement in place at eight other airports Emirates services including Boston, Dallas, Los Angeles, Miami, JFK, Orlando, Seattle, and Washington D.C.
The agreement was announced at Dulles International Airport by United CEO Scott Kirby and Emirates President Sir Tim Clark. “It’s a significant partnership that will unlock tremendous consumer benefit and bring the United Arab Emirates and the United States even closer,” said Sir Tim Clark.
Customers of both airlines will be able to book these connecting flights on a single ticket, which will make check-in and luggage handling easier. The agreement also gives loyalty program members access to more rewards — United MileagePlus members can earn and redeem miles when connecting on Emirates, while Emirates Skywards members can earn miles when traveling on United flights.
This agreement could open the door for further collaboration between airlines, and we’re looking forward to see where it leads.
