Travel rules and policies keep CHANGING, and now another adjustment is coming.
Over the past several months, we’ve seen more destinations added to the CDC’s high-risk travel list, large air travel crowds top pre-pandemic levels, and cuts in flight schedules that could cause complications in your holiday trips. Now another travel rule is changing, specifically for those seeking to visit Japan.
Traveling to Japan has been a little more complicated with ongoing COVID-19-related border controls. But soon those rules will be changing.
According to Bloomberg, from October 11th, Japan will remove some of its COVID-19 border control rules. Specifically, individual visitors will be allowed to enter Japan and Japan will be reinstating visa waivers. The cap on daily arrivals will also end.
Bloomberg points out that these changes come just as Japan’s “deadliest wave” of the COVID-19 pandemic recedes. The news also follows updates on the value of the yen, which has slumped to some of its lowest levels against the dollar in “almost a quarter of a century.” This could make Japan an “inexpensive, attractive” destination for people from overseas to visit.
Before COVID-19, Japan allowed individuals from 68 countries, including the U.S., to visit the country for as long as 90 days without a visa. It seems some of that travel will soon be possible again.
But it’s not just about international travelers. At the same time as these changes are made, Japan will also be introducing discounts for domestic travel.
So if you’ve been itching to plan a trip to Japan, get started booking those reservations and making more finalized decisions on that trip!
