Tuesday, May 31st, 2023, truly marked the end of an era for the Disney Parks. Yep, Splash Mountain closed at Disneyland, which means that the ride made its final splash.
As our friend Sharpay Evans would say, though, “It’s out with the old, and in with the new!” It’s only been two days since the Splash Mountain closure, and yet lots of changes have already been made in the area. When we visited Disneyland the very next day, we were honestly a little shocked at everything that had already been added or changed in the area. Let’s check it out.
Firstly, we noticed that the trash cans surrounding the former Splash Mountain had already been changed to be the Tiana’s Bayou Adventure trash cans. Oh, and just check out the walls that’ve been put up to block the view of the area while construction gets started!
More walls have been put up surrounding the actual ride, though. The Splash Mountain sign is still up, but the walls in front say “Tiana’s Foods.” This juxtaposition cracked us up!
The walls go on for what seems like forever, though. Check it out!
We even got to see a giant box just chilling out in the former ride queue. It says “Please Keep Dry” which is sort of hilarious since this used to be Splash Mountain, and the Southern Dome Salt Company label convinces us that the box is holding something for the new attraction!
Wow! It seems like the Imagineers got to work on this QUICK! It’s a good thing, too, because we are SO excited to see the new ride come to life. We’ve been keeping an eye on Disney World’s version of the attraction, too, so click here if you’re interested in seeing that. Disney said we can expect both of the rides to be completed in late 2024, although no specific date has yet been announced.
Disney DID however give us a few updates on what we can expect from the ride. We learned of 17 different characters and animatronics that will be inside the ride, as well as a details regarding a song being written for the ride.
We’ll continue to keep you updated as new information comes our way, so make sure to stay tuned and follow along for more!
