Can you believe that we are nearing the end of August already?!
Spooky season is in full swing at Disney World as we enter September. Schools have started in many parts of the country, and fall is just around the corner. Now is one of the times that people love going to Disney World. The temperatures begin to cool off, the fall and Halloween decorations are the favorites for many people, and since school has started the crowds aren’t always as busy as in the middle of the summer. However, there are a few mistakes that we worry people may make if they’re headed to the parks in September. So here are a few reminders to help you plan your next trip!
Thinking EPCOT Won’t Be Crowded
The 2024 EPCOT Food and Wine Festival begins on August 29th and runs through November 23rd. If you’re new here, this is one of our favorite events of the whole year! It will be running throughout the whole month of September, which means EPCOT will likely be a bit more crowded than on non-festival days.
EPCOT will probably be most crowded toward the beginning of the festival, so early September may be the busiest time in EPCOT. The weekends will also likely be busy times to be in EPCOT as the locals will probably come to check out the festival more often on those days. You may get lucky with lower crowds near the end of September and during the weekdays.
Not Checking the Weather
If you’re not from Florida or used to the weather there, it may be hard to believe but September is still the middle of hurricane season. Before you head to the parks, we recommend checking the weather and packing accordingly!
Taking a poncho, umbrella, and/or shoe covers in your park bag is not a bad idea! We’ve even tested out some shoe covers that we would suggest packing just in case rain is in the forecast, which is likely in September. It is also likely a mistake to think that it will feel like fall in September in Florida. Even if the temperatures do start to come down, it will likely still be plenty hot out. So, don’t forget to check the weather and pack accordingly before heading to Disney World this September!
Planning To Stay Late at Magic Kingdom on Party Nights
Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party is in full swing at Magic Kingdom! The seasonal Halloween party runs on select nights through October 31st.
On the days that the party happens, Magic Kingdom closes early at 6PM (the time the party officially starts is 7PM). That means that if you don’t have a party ticket, you won’t be able to experience any of the attractions and will be asked to leave the park. Many people opt to avoid Magic Kingdom on these days and go on days there are no parties so they get a full day at the park for their ticket. We suggest checking the calendar and scheduled park times on the Disney World app or website to plan your parks accordingly!
Planning To Ride Rides That Will Be Closed
Unfortunately, there will be a few attractions that will be closed in September. Test Track at EPCOT is in the middle of getting a total overhaul that won’t be done until 2025, so if you’re heading to Disney World in September, don’t expect to ride this attraction!
Jungle Cruise at Magic Kingdom will also be closed throughout September. The punny river ride is getting a refurbishment from August 26th through October 16th, so unfortunately, if you’re visiting in September, you won’t be able to ride this attraction either. Disney temporarily closes rides, attractions, restaurants, and more for refurbishment, so be aware that other things may be unavailable during your vacation for this reason.
