Disney just shared an inside look at a legendary attraction on social media!
The @WaltDisneyImagineering Instagram account (one of our favorites as theme park nerds) shared a short clip of Imagineer Brice Croskey walking through the sets of Walt Disney’s legendary Carousel of Progress, detailing some of the small details that define this iconic show.
The clip, which is captioned with “Our Imagineers find inspiration in many places including classic attractions like Walt Disney’s Carousel of Progress!” begins with Croskey detailing the slope of the attraction’s stages, along with a cameo from everyone’s favorite Disney dog, Rover.
From there, Croskey goes through the show’s backdrops, explaining how they were painted by artisans who worked on major films throughout the Golden Age of Hollywood, and the clip even reveals a nice little easter egg referencing the history of Walt Disney Imagineering.
Next, Brice explores the show’s turntable sets, exposing the heavy amount of detail that went into the show’s production design.
The Carousel of Progress was a bit of a passion project for Walt Disney. It evolved from a never-built late-1950s Disneyland expansion known as Edison Square and eventually opened as a General Electric-sponsored pavilion at the 1964 New York World’s Fair.
Following the Fair, the attraction was moved to Disneyland’s Tomorrowland, operating at the “Happiest Place on Earth” from 1967 to 1973. The show was moved to the East Coast’s Walt Disney World in 1975, where it has been operating at its current location in the Magic Kingdom’s Tomorrowland for 50 years.
Imagineering’s official Instagram account has shared a behind-the-scenes look at Walt Disney’s Carousel of Progress at the Magic Kingdom. Stay tuned to DFB for more on Disney’s history!
