UPDATED November 14, 2025
With new lands and rides coming to Disney Parks, it often means some of our favorite attractions will be closed, even if it’s just temporarily.
If you’re heading to Disneyland or Disney World this year, be aware that a classic ride might be under the weather while you’re in the parks. While there are plenty of other attractions to enjoy in the meantime, you’re allowed to be sad you can’t ride Big Thunder Mountain 1000x on your trip. Here are the rides that are or will be closed during 2025.
Disney World
Currently Closed
Big Thunder Mountain Railroad
The wildest ride in the wilderness will be closed all of 2025 and will open sometime in 2026 with “new magic,” (including RAINBOW CAVERNS!) which you can learn more about RIGHT HERE!!
HERE is what’s happening during the YEAR LONG CLOSURE of Big Thunder Mountain Railroad in Disney World
Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin
Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin closed on August 4th, 2025 and will not reopen until 2026, though no official opening timeline or date has been shared. It will be renovated with new vehicles, and targets, and it looks like a truly updated experience… including HANDHELD BLASTERS! Yep, no more trying to wrench that static blaster into the perfect position — you’ll be able to aim and shoot easily. The new blasters will now include an always-on laser and come in two different colors so you can tell who is aiming at what!

Kali River Rapids
Kali River Rapids in the Asia section of Animal Kingdom is closed as of October 6th. Though a specific reopening date is not yet known, it is expected to reopen sometime in December.
Vacation Fun – An Original Animated Short with Mickey & Minnie
Vacation Fun – An Original Animated Short with Mickey & Minnie in Hollywood Studios is closed temporarily as of October 20th.
Disney plans to reopen that attraction before the end of the year.
Mickey’s Philharmagic
Mickey’s PhilharMagic in Magic Kingdom is closed as of November 1st for a routine refurbishment. The good news is that Disney does not expect the closure to last long and hopes the attraction will reopen later that month.
We checked the hours on the Disney World website, and it looks like it’s scheduled to reopen on November 23rd, with hours posted for that day.
PERMANENTLY CLOSED
Tom Sawyer Island and the Liberty Square Riverboat
Disney World’s own Cars-themed area is coming, and to make way for Piston Peak, Magic Kingdom is getting reworked. The Rivers of America, Tom Sawyer Island, and the Liberty Square Riverboat closed permanently on July 7th to make way for the expansion. You can see our coverage of the final day with these beloved classic attractions here.
Muppet*Vision 3D
Alas, we’ve said our final goodbye to Muppet*Vision 3D, which closed permanently on June 8th, 2025. Kermit and the gang are making a move to Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster in 2026 to leave what was formerly Muppets Courtyard open for Monsters, Inc. land. (No dates announced on the Monsters, Inc. project just yet.)
It’s Tough to be a Bug!
It’s Tough to be a Bug!, which was presented inside the Tree of Life, closed in March 2025 to be replaced by a brand new show, Zootopia: Better Zoogether!
It opened on November 7th, 2025.

The Boneyard
Though it’s not technically a ride, per se, we know a lot of little ones adore playtime in The Boneyard while visiting Disney’s Animal Kingdom. Additionally, The Boneyard at Disney’s Animal Kingdom closed permanently on September 2nd, 2025 to accommodate construction for The Tropical Americas land, Pueblo Esperanza.
Animation Courtyard including Disney Jr. Dance Party! and Star Wars Launch Bay
Animation Courtyard in Disney’s Hollywood Studios closed permanently on September 25th to make way for a new addition to the park, which will open in 2026. This includes a permanent closure for Star Wars Launch Bay as well as a closure of Disney Jr. Play and Dance to make way for “a fresh Disney Jr. show,” according to Disney.
In fact, Disney has announced that the entire courtyard will be reimagined into The Walt Disney Studios. Star Wars: Launch Bay will be turning into “The Magic of Disney Animation,” which is inspired by Walt Disney Animation Studios and will even feature Mickey’s famous Sorcerer Hat on top of the building.
The new building will let you into the studio, “as the animators have temporarily stepped away,” and characters come to life and take over! This is heavily inspired by the Disney short “Once Upon A Studio” and will even have moments where portraits come to life. Disney even teased that ” you’ll even pencil in some time to learn how to draw your very own character sketch.” And there’s even more in store…

Disneyland Resort
Currently Closed
Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln in the Main Street Opera House closed on April 16th, 2024. A reopening date for the Mr. Lincoln show is not yet known; however, there is something VERY interesting to know about the Main Street Opera House, which houses the attraction.
President Lincoln was the first ever audio-animatronic made by Walt Disney, and now Main Street Opera House is presenting the first-ever audio-animatronic of Walt Disney himself in a brand-new show!
A new show, “Walt Disney — A Magical Life,” made its debut on July 17th, 2025. It shares a space inside the Main Street Opera House (after an initial solo run) with “Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln.” Ultimately, Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln will also return to the Opera House and will be shown in rotation with “Walt Disney — A Magical Life” at a future date, to be announced.

Between so many rides closed temporarily or forever, and the high ticket prices , this is a good reason NOT to visit Disney World in 2025. We might go in 2026, depending how things are coming along and IF ticket prices don’t rise again. Otherwise, we have hundreds of other enjoyable vacations to choose from for less money.
