The Disney Cruise Line is the ultimate Disney vacation. With many ships in the Disney Cruise Line fleet, and more continuing to come, the experience is unlike any other! Whether you plan on taking a Disney Cruise, another cruise, or flying to those exotic island locations, there was a warning for a specific destination! The U.S. Department of State has issued a travel advisory for the Bahamas.
As of March 31st, The U.S. Department of State has issued a Level 2 travel advisory for the Bahamas. They recommend that those traveling to the Bahamas “exercise increased caution”! They stated the update is due to crime, beach safety risks, and traveling with firearms.

The full country summary for the travel advisory on increased crime read:
“Violent crime—like armed robberies, burglaries, and sexual assaults—can occur anywhere in The Bahamas. Most crime occurs in Nassau and Freeport on New Providence and Grand Bahama islands. Stay alert in the “Over the Hill” area in Nassau, south of Shirley Street, where gangs have killed residents. Stay alert in vacation rental properties, especially where private security is not present.”.

There was also a warning surrounding on beach activities. This included boating, jet skiing, and other beach activities that involve safety risks on the island. “Boating is not well-regulated” as injuries and deaths have occurred, and “sexual assaults by jet ski operators have been reported”, were stated. The State Department noted that there were safety risks with swimming, due to watercraft. They also noted, “Sexual assaults have occurred on and near downtown Nassau beaches. Be aware of your surroundings and stay alert in public restrooms.”.

Lastly, it reminded U.S. citizens that it is illegal to have firearms and ammunition in the Bahamas. That law is strictly enforced, so travelers caught with firearms or ammunition can be arrested or fined. The Bahamas is a very popular travel destination, and it’s important to be aware of what’s going on! To stay up to date on the latest involving travel, be sure to follow us at the Disney Food Blog.
