Some NEW additions are coming to Orlando International Airport (MCO).
According to the Orlando Business Journal, Signature Aviation has entered into an agreement with MCO to build several new additions to the airport, including an 8,000-square-foot terminal along with two 30,000-square-foot group storage hangars, each of which will include 2,500 square feet of attached office space.
According to the outlet, Winter Park-based design firm Schenkel Shultz will be designing the terminal, which will feature a “VIP lounge, spaces for flight rooms, a main lobby and private conference rooms.”
It was confirmed that during the construction period, 2,000 square feet within the adjacent Southwest Airlines Training Building will be used as a temporary terminal.
The new project, which is in addition to further additions and renovations coming to MCO, comes at a time when the general aviation industry is growing. Since 2020, the industry has grown by over 150,000 jobs and $92 billion in annual economic impact.
Darren Pleasance, Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association president and CEO, said of the growth,“This report shows the growing impact of general aviation in every part of the U.S.. Since the last report in 2020, the number of people learning to fly has nearly doubled, proving once again that general aviation provides more value than ever to communities across the country.”
A construction timeline for the project has not been revealed by either MCO or Signature Aviation as of press time. Stay tuned to DFB for more on the change coming to Orlando International Airport.
