Well, it’s the end of an era. We’ve started to say our long goodbye to Muppets Courtyard in Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
The area will be closing to make way for a new Monsters, Inc. land, and although we’re excited about the new land, we’re sad to see this Muppets-themed part of the park go. Today, Mama Melrose’s Ristorante Italiano in Muppets Courtyard has permanently closed, and it’s already looking a little different. Let’s take a look.
Now that Mama Melrose’s has officially closed, we noticed that the windows of the restaurant have been blacked out, which is what usually happens when a store or restaurant closes in Disney World. That’s probably to keep any prying eyes from seeing anything going on inside, although we aren’t yet hearing signs of construction.
Here’s a closer look at the windows.
The menu board outside the restaurant has also been covered up, although you can still see “Lunch” and “Dinner” on it. But all menu items are gone.
There aren’t any construction walls up around the restaurant, and these are the only things we can see on the exterior of the restaurant.
Now, don’t get us wrong, we haven’t always been kind to Mama Melrose’s (okay, so we called it Disney’s version of Olive Garden one time), but it’s still a sign of the change that’s about to happen to Muppets Courtyard. We also recently spotted a permit for the demolition of a store in the area, Muppet*Vision 3D and PizzeRizzo will close on June 7th, and the rest of the courtyard will close on June 8th — and the construction walls will be going up.
Although Monstropolis will be replacing Muppets Courtyard, the Muppets will be returning to Hollywood Studios when they take over Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster — as of yet, Disney has not yet revealed when that project might begin.

I have taken the bus from grand Floridian too animal kingdom park i have told the driver and he was able too take us over too animal kingdom lodge
Disney dining was not able too use at swan and dolphin has that changed
So sad. I really liked Mama Melrose’s. All the changes Disney is making to all of WDW is mostly sad. Where are people supposed to eat? I’m pretty positive that the new restaurant they are putting in the new Monster’s Inc Land will have food I won’t like. They keep taking away good restaurants and replacing them with restaurants not suitable to my tastebuds. Their loss. I will have to leave the parks in order to have a decent, tasty meal in a restaurant. It would be fine if I only wanted to eat at quick service places, but I don’t. Again, their loss. So sad!
Why does Disney eliminate favorite attractions to retheme into others instead of expanding to add newer ones ???
Do we think they will add an additional restaurant to the fantasmic dining package since mama Mel rose is closed? I am thinking roundup rodeo?
