New attractions are coming to Magic Kingdom, so your trip is going to look a lot different in a few years!

On top of the new land themed to the Disney Villains, parts of Frontierland are going to be transformed into a Cars-inspired space with two new attractions. People have had mixed opinions about this change since it was first announced, but now we’ve got more information that will hopefully help people feel better.
The new Cars area of Frontierland is going to be called Piston Peak, and it will be home to two new rides — one that’s a rally race and one that’s made for the whole family. The land will feature fan-favorite Cars characters, as well as some new ones. But what might be most exciting? It’s going to have LOTS of water elements.

When Disney announced that the Cars attractions would be replacing the Rivers of America and Tom Sawyer Island, one of the main complaints from fans was that we’d be losing some major water elements of Magic Kingdom. Water is a big component in helping a theme park feel “alive” and in motion, and people were definitely disappointed that they would have to say goodbye to the river.

But worry not! Disney has shared that the new Piston Peak area will have plenty of water. Disney described the expansion by saying: “Imagine an awe-inspiring wilderness filled with towering trees, snowcapped mountains, breathtaking waterfalls, roaring rivers, and impressive geysers.”

There will be a river that flows through Piston Peak, and Disney Imagineers have said they “lost count” of how many waterfalls there will be. The whole area was inspired by National Parks, specifically the Rocky Mountain National Park in Colorado. The area is called Piston Peak from the fictional land, Piston Peak National Park, from the 2014 movie Planes: Fire & Rescue. Even though that’s where it gets its name, the new expansion will not be based on a specific Cars franchise movie or show, and it will look different than the national park from Planes: Fire & Rescue because it’s inspired by different parks.

Hopefully, this news makes people feel more confident in the new area of the park. We’ll be interested to learn more about the upcoming attractions and changes to Frontierland!

Sadly what they say vs what they do is often very different. This could be lip service as it often is. We will all have to wait and see. Disney doesn’t want to be the continuing down the path of negative news so they will be “listening to the people” and giving them what they want.
Yet the prices climb, rides close, and we are at a peak price point with less to do and paying for attractions with LL to get to do anything.
