When you’re staying at a Disney World resort, you’ll probably want to get the most out of your stay. One way to do that is to take advantage of the restaurants right at your resort!
We headed to Sassagoula Floatworks & Food Factory at Disney’s Port Orleans Resort — French Quarter to try some of their new items, so see if this quick-service restaurant is worth a stop during your Disney World vacation. We’re bringing you a full review with all the details, so let’s head to the bayou and try some food!
Atmosphere
This counter-service restaurant is located in the same building where you check in for your stay. You’ll pass by the incredible beignets at Scat Cat’s Club and head to the right to a food court-style spot.
We love grabbing a meal here because the dining area is spacious and easy to find a seat for larger parties.
When you look around the room, you’ll see New Orleans-inspired touches like Mardi Gras beads and masks. If you look a little closer, you can even find small hints of The Princess and the Frog.
If you’re going to the parks in the afternoon or evening, you can have a quick meal here before heading out. It’s also an excellent option for check-in and out days or the ones where you’re refusing to head too far from the pool.
Now that we know the space, what’s on the menu?
Menu
There are multiple food stations you can stop at to grab dishes. You can grab them from the counter and then pay for them at the register before heading to the dining area.
If you grabbed a Refillable Resort Mug, you can fill it up at the soda stations, too.
Sassagoula has a bit of everything, from traditional American dishes like pizza and burgers to a few classic New Orleans-inspired dishes, such as the Bayou Hot Dog and Po’ Boys.
That all sounds delicious, so let’s eat!
Eats
We started with the Bayou Hot Dog for $11.99. This is made with Andouille sausage with peppers, onions, and remoulade sauce, served with French fries on the side.
This was by far our favorite thing we ate — it’s essentially a hot dog lover’s dream, but with extra spice and flavor. The peppers on top are nice and fresh and the bun is toasted and buttery in a delicious way.
Then we grabbed the Mediterranean Meatball Bowl for $12.79. The bowl is filled with harissa-spiced Impossible meatballs, couscous salad, tzatziki sauce, pickled onions, and cauliflower pita crisps.
This definitely fell flat for us, as we were expecting more flavor overall with all those different ingredients. The tzatziki sauce was the highlight of the dish, but there wasn’t quite enough to get it with every bite. Ultimately, we were hoping this dish would be bright, rich, and flavorful…but it was all kind of one-note.
When we saw Fish and Chips on the menu for $12.99, we had to have it! This is beer-battered cod fillets served with tartar sauce and French fries.
And once again, this made the “womp womp” sound play inside our heads. If you’re used to the Yorkshire County Fish Shop fish & chips, then this will be a huge disappointment. It really ended up tasting more like chicken tenders than fish, and the fries were pretty basic.
For dessert, we grabbed the Banana Bread with Praline Topping for $5.49. This treat helped our meal take a turn for the better again!
There was a rich banana flavor to the bread that wasn’t too overwhelming, and the pralines on top added a delicious caramel-like crunch. The different flavors and textures here are comforting and sweet without being too much.
So how did our meal stack up?
Nosh or Not
You’ll want to stop at Sassagoula Floatworks if…
- You’re staying at Port Orleans. If you’re staying at this resort (even if it’s over at Riverside), you may want to stop here and grab some grub for a quick meal. The menu is a bit more fun than your usual food court menu.
- You’re a hot dog aficionado. The only thing we’d really tell you to come over here specifically to snag is that hot dog!
- You want a meal with your beignets. If you’re stopping next door to get beignets and you want some savory eats as well, this might be a good option.
You might want to pass if…
- You have a bigger budget. For those with a little more cash, we recommend Scat Cat’s Club — Lounge two doors down instead. That spot is open in the evenings with a cozy and delicious vibe.
- You’re not staying at this hotel. There’s not much here to recommend that you go out of your way for. It’s a pretty standard meal.
Overall
We really loved the hot dog, and the Banana Bread with Praline Topping was pretty yummy, but ultimately we weren’t impressed by our meal here. We’d probably only come back of our own free will if we were staying at the resort, and even then, you can take the Sassagoula River Cruise down to Disney Springs for more exciting fare.

Yes! This is our favorite resort and we eat here all the time. Sorry dfb had a rough time here but they have an extensive menu and they missed some fantastic food! Salmon meal and mojo roasted chicken both are delicious! My fish fry dinner was excellent! Though you are right about the French fries being just the usual. However they have excellent sides from which to choose! Pizza is also better than expected. Burgers are all good. Chefs very willing to help out and customize for one of our party who has allergies. They even have shrimp po’ boys and my favorite wdw go to: chicken Caesar salad…always fresh and delicious! There is also an extensive bakery and dessert menu that makes it hard to choose. It’s easy to find the menus online. Breakfast also has a lot of offerings including mickey waffles…yum! Dfb seems surprisingly impressed with the ambience. While we appreciate the Mardi gras touches, this restaurant is huge and cavern like which makes it noisy and imo gives it a cafeteria style feel. The pool is a few feet away and so is the very nice gift shop, hotel lobby (gorgeous) and the bus stop. It’s too bad dfb had a so-so experience here. We highly recommend it!
I do not understand why executive chef’s at most if not all Disney dining establishments don’t compete with each other for taste, uniqueness, value, etc. there should be a rating system that includes menu inspiration and quality with guest feedback. Is it that they just do not want to know…?
