Universal’s upcoming UK park just took another step forward!
Earlier this year, Universal confirmed the company’s long-rumored plans to bring a theme park to Europe, specifically in the United Kingdom. Now, the company has begun actively recruiting, with the Universal Destinations and Experiences website now offering a form for those interested in “future job opportunities.”
The form, which according to the BBC, lists potential positions in administration, construction, entertainment, HR, and park and resort operations, states, “it may be some time before these opportunities become available.” This is in line with the park’s potential 2031 opening date.
At the time of the project’s announcement in April, Universal claimed that 80% of the theme park’s 28,000 employees would be from Bedford (where the park is planned to be located), central Bedfordshire, Luton, and Milton Keynes.
According to an interview with UK Culture Secretary Lisa Nandy at the time of the announcement, “landmark investment” would be “fantastic news” for the economy. Nandy said the project is ”not just about bringing great American creations to Britain, this is also about showcasing great British creations to the world. These are things like James Bond, Paddington Bear, these are things like Harry Potter. We’ve got so much to be proud of.”
As currently planned, the 476-acre resort complex would include a “one of the largest and most advanced” theme parks in Europe, a 500-room hotel, and a retail complex.
While the concept art for the park is purposely unclear, eagle-eyed fans have been quick to identify what they believe are identifying features for some of the park lands, including areas based on Harry Potter, Jurassic World, and Back to the Future.
Universal’s planned United Kingdom theme park is still years away and pending approvals, but the project took a big step forward with the opening of a job recruitment form on Universal’s website. Stay tuned to DFB for more on the company’s international plans.

An interesting thought is about whether it will be open all year. Many theme parks in the UK close October/November and don’t open again until Easter.
