Big changes are coming to Magic Kingdom! Not one, but TWO new lands will make their way to this iconic theme park. While we still have a bit before these lands are open for guests, we are already getting excited about them.
Magic Kingdom will eventually be home to a new Cars land, called Piston Peak National Park, and a brand-new Villains Land. While Piston Peak National Park will be replacing the Rivers of America and Tom Sawyer Island, Villains Land will be built beyond Big Thunder Mountain Railroad. Which will be the most popular at Disney World? We are giving our predictions!
There is really no telling which will actually be the most popular, but we do have some thoughts! Most of us here at DFB think that Villains Land will likely be the most popular area. People have been asking for it for YEARS, and there has been a lot of excitement about the announcement. Plus, this is something entirely brand-new for Disney. Disneyland already has a Cars area, and while the Magic Kingdom expansion will be a different atmosphere and setting, it still feels a bit like it has already been done.
Villains Land is not replacing anything, which we also think will be an asset for it. There isn’t any comparison to what was there before, or sad feelings because the area replaced something you really enjoyed. Everyone will get to enjoy it with a fresh perspective.
The new Villains show in Hollywood Studios, Disney Villains: Unfairly Ever After, has also been a hit since it opened, so we can definitely tell that Villains are exciting for Disney guests. We can’t wait to see how Disney stacks up against Dark Universe at Epic Universe. Plus, there is a lot of merchandising potential for this new land.
On the other hand, Piston Peak National Park could end up being more popular than we are giving it credit for. While there have been mixed opinions on Cars Land, we have a feeling this will be a popular area for those with kids. Our team members and other Disney fans have mentioned that this “world” isn’t as popular across the board. Some people love Cars, but not everyone is a Cars-lover. However, some people are Cars fans, and a new land has the potential to bring in more fans, too!
There are a lot of factors that go into what will make one area more popular than the other, and we truly won’t know until they are both open and operating. The DFB team may mostly think that Villains Land will be more popular, but who knows! When can we expect these areas to be open? We don’t really know yet. The Rivers of America, Tom Sawyer Island, and the Liberty Square Riverboat will be closing on July 7th, 2025, in preparation for construction to begin on the Cars land. However, no official opening date has been released yet.
Some permits have been filed, and some work has started for Villains Land, but Disney is in the very early stages of construction. Disney hasn’t released an opening date for the Villains Land yet, either. Although we know we will still have a bit of time until we can set foot inside the lands.
Only time will tell which land is more popular in the Magic Kingdom! All we know is that we are excited to see these new areas. Stay tuned to DFB for all your Disney World news!

We have no interest in either. Too many bad changes in the parks and all this construction. After 50 years, we just don’t love wdw parks like we used to. We’re now enjoying Seaworld, Busch Gardens and Epic Universe!. Sad but true.
Seems a bit early for a comparison or prediction considering that very little is known about the Villains area at this point. Popularity will most likely be driven by the attractions themselves.
The Rivers of America and the Liberty Bell would have been my choice.
Cars of the old frontier….someone’s creative license should be revoked.
Cate has summed up my feelings exactly, their changes have destroyed any desire I had to go to Disney World
