Magic Kingdom is going through a lot of changes over the next few years — so much so that it’s sometimes hard to keep track of them all.
Astro Orbiter has been put back together following a months-long refurbishment, we have a closing date for Tom Sawyer Island and the Liberty Square Riverboat to turn into the new Piston Peak land, and we know that Villains Land construction is underway behind Big Thunder Mountain Railroad (which is also under construction right now), but believe it or not, that’s not all! There’s also a change coming to the Walt Disney World Railroad you won’t want to forget.
With the news of upcoming closures to Tom Sawyer Island and the Liberty Square Riverboat on July 7th (meaning the last day to experience them is July 6th), we were concerned that all that construction work would completely close the Walt Disney World Railroad. After all, when TRON Lightcycle / Run was under construction, that’s exactly what happened.
However, Disney announced that the Walt Disney World Railroad will remain open during construction on the new land; BUT, only part of the route will be operating starting July 7th, 2025. Since traveling to the Frontierland Station would run guests right through the construction area, Disney will only be running the railroad in what’s called “shuttle mode.”
This means that the train will only run from the Main Street station and the Fantasyland station, so while it’s not the whole attraction, it will save you a lot of steps if you’re trying to get from the front of the park to the back! Our theory is that closing the Frontierland Station will prevent guests from seeing not only the Piston Peak construction, but also what’s going on with Villains Land.
However, Disney is turning some of the benches around on the train, which means you can choose to sit forward OR backward, no matter which direction you’re going.

I’m happy to hear this decision. I need the Train with my old knees. I feared they would just shut it down completely like during TRON completion. Not perfect, but better!!
Rather than saying what will be down or not running up to capacity you might just say what is working. The list might be shorter
