Disneyland is going to look A LOT different in 2026, and that includes some notable absences!
The Disneyland Resort’s 70th Anniversary Celebration is in full swing, bringing a lot of fun to the parks that you can experience now all the way into the summer of 2026. After that point, get ready to say goodbye to offerings like the Paint the Night Parade and the Key to Disneyland interactive souvenir. We won’t just be losing these anniversary offerings in 2026 — there are a few Disneyland Resort experiences that are sunsetting in 2025 (or have ALREADY CLOSED) that you’ll be hard-pressed to experience ever again in 2026 and beyond.
Monsters, Inc. Mike & Sulley to the Rescue!
While it’ll still technically be available in 2026, Disney California Adventure’s Monsters, Inc. Mike & Sulley to the Rescue! ride is closing permanently early next year. While an official date has yet to be set, your safest bet of getting on this attraction one last time is to ride it in 2025.
The Monsters, Inc. ride — which replaced Superstar Limo — is an adorable dark ride based on the Pixar film and has been a staple of California Adventure for years now.
The ride and part of the Hollywood Backlot will be renovated to make way for the new Avatar land coming to California Adventure.
We’re still learning about the land, but know it’ll be based on the Avatar sequels and include a thrilling boat ride.
All the NEW Rides and Attractions at Disneyland and Disney California Adventure in 2025 and Beyond
Red Car Trolley
Staying at California Adventure, 2025 was the LAST year you could experience the famous Red Car Trolley attraction. We say “was” because, sadly, it officially closed permanently in February.
While the car — styled after the Los Angeles Pacific Electric trolley cars of the early-to-mid 1900s — still sits at the front of the park, it is out of service, so don’t expect rides up and down Buena Vista Street, Hollywood Boulevard, and Sunset Boulevard.
The decision to end the ride’s service is a direct result of Disney closing the Red Car Trolley barn in anticipation of the new Avengers Campus expansion project.
The expansion will double the size of the land while adding two new rides: Avengers Infinity Defense and Stark Flight Lab.

Pirates of the Caribbean Lightning Lane
Pirates of the Caribbean at Disneyland is about to discontinue its Lightning Lane offering — and maybe that’s a good thing.
The ride has been offering Lightning Lane (Disney’s skip-the-line service) reservations for some time as New Orleans Square and the now-Bayou Country undergo projects. However, at the time, it was made known that this was a temporary offering, and with the area now mostly construction-free without any attraction closures, Disneyland is finally making Pirates of the Caribbean standby-only again.
Per Disney, Pirates of the Caribbean’s Lightning Lane Multi Pass offering is available ONLY until June 30th, 2025 — Disney has confirmed this line will return to a standby-only line on July 1st, 2025.
While it’s possible that the Lightning Lane could always return, we kind of hope it doesn’t, as the high passenger capacity of this attraction usually makes it one of the easier rides to get on in a short amount of time, despite its popularity. The Lightning Lane has been making the standby line longer (one that has been historically kind to visitors), and Disneylanders have complained that the offering was hurting the attraction — not helping it.
A Popular Ride Is Being Removed from Lightning Lane at Disneyland

I don’t get Disneyland removing the Monsters, Inc. ride. It was great, and true to the story. I know California Disney Resort is limited in space, but can’t they find some other place for Avatar? Or send folks to Animal Kingdom to experience Pandora!
