Since its opening in 2019, Rise of the Resistance has been one of the most popular attractions at both Walt Disney World and Disneyland. However, that doesn’t mean that there aren’t things fans want changed about the ride.
The massive Star Wars attraction — which combines two ride-style experiences, heavy theming, and massive environments into one of the most immersive offerings in any theme park — draws long waits, but often falls victim to technical issues and downtimes, which was a common refrain of complaint when we asked our readers what they would change about the ride.
A large number of readers complained about now often the ride is in “B-Mode”, including the Kylo Ren animatronic at the ride’s climax not working.
Reader Jason brought up, “Working cannons,” referencing the massive moving artillery that has been shut down intermittently during the ride’s years of operation, allegedly due to foundation damage caused by the force of their movement.
Reader Juan also wrote in with a complaint about the ride’s somewhat unreliable operation. Their wish was for the ride to “actually be open at rope drop” because “EVERY time I have been to DHS at rope drop (7:45 or earlier) gotten through the tapstyles, hoofed it that long way, with a brisk walk, avoided people running like madmen, and finally arrived at RoTR to find cast members in front saying the ride was down and they didn’t know when it would reopen. You couldn’t even line up early and wait for official opening time like you can at or RnRC or any other ride. EVERY time. Maybe I’m just unlucky but it became an inside joke with my family.”
Not every desired change had to do with maintenance and closures, however. Several readers brought up the attractions Cast Members, who are supposed to be in character as members of the villainous First Order. Reader Deborah wrote, “I want to see the cast members that wait with you to enter Kylo’s interrogation room act in character while you’re in there to make it more realistic. I want them to stroll up and back, accusing us of stuff”, while reader Jim added “Definitely some more effort from the actors/cast members. Maybe a better rotation to get fresh acting on a regular basis.”
Meanwhile, reader Sabrina picked a bone with the ride’s actual story structure, saying they’d like to see Rise of the Resistance “actually have an ending and not be like ‘not what you were hoping for, but hey, you’re resistance now.’ For me, it seems incomplete.”
While most of these changes seem to be fixing negatives, one final reader had a more positive wish. Reader Amanda said they’d “love to see an on-ride PhotoPass!” added to the attraction.
Rise of the Resistance is one of the most popular Disney rides in the world right now, but there are still some changes many of our readers would like to see! Stay tuned to DFB for more on what our readers think!

Yes, I have to agree with placing a photo pass in the ride. I’d say where it drops or maybe where it rises up??? Could work in those places.
