New eats and drinks have been popping up all over Disney Springs for the annual Flavors of Florida event, and we may have discovered some of the BEST yet!

Who’s hungry?
Flavors of Florida is happening now at Disney Springs, and it’s filled with some of the best flavors and recipes built with locally-sourced Floridian favorites. Not only is this limited-time event built with meals and drinks that can appeal to all kinds of taste buds, but there are even a few sweet treats, and exclusive culinary demonstrations you can attend for FREE featuring notable chefs from Disney Springs restaurants. So when we noticed one of our favorite new restaurants at Disney World added a few new offerings just for this event, we couldn’t keep ourselves from stopping by!
The highly anticipated Summer House on the Lake addition to Disney Springs has quickly risen in the Disney World restaurant ranks as one of our all-time favorites. In between its down-home, tranquil vibe and delicious dishes, it’s hard not to immediately fall in love with this place. It’s an ideal restaurant for those looking for a place to catch up with friends, plan a low-key evening out with loved ones, or take on a relaxing meal solo while savoring all the flavors one by one.

And, while we could easily pop in here to order one of our usual favorites from their regular menu items, it’s their newest additions for Flavors of Florida that really had our interests piqued! Flavors of Florida has become an annual event showcasing culinary dishes, drinks, treats, snacks, and everything in between made from Florida-grown and sourced ingredients that highlight the best of the flavors “The Sunshine State” has to offer! And this year, they’ve returned with over 90 offerings exclusive to this event across 45 restaurants just at Disney Springs!

Looks just like a giant Florida room at home
As we made our way through the dining room and found our table, we were seated with both the regular lunch menu…

…and another slim menu highlighting these events’ offerings! Immediately, we knew EXACTLY what we were ordering.

So we placed our order and waited for everything to arrive (and it didn’t take long at ALL)!
First to arrive at the table was our drink, the St. Augustine Strawberry Refresher. This drink is made of a bright, tropical blend of Florida vodka, Aperol Liqueur, lime juice, DOLE Pineapple Juice, and strawberry purée and will cost you $17.

St. Augustine Strawberry Refresher
This drink is really, really nice. You can definitely taste a little bit of that pineapple and lime at the forefront, which gives it almost a zesty, sour kick to it initially — and then you taste the Aperol and the strawberry flavor on the back end of it. The Florida cane sugar vodka almost mimics a gin-forward approach to it against the Aperol, which was nicely accomplished. But what really helps set this drink apart (and one of the features we loved most about it) is how it foams at the top.

Love this one!
The mint garnish stuck on the very top of it gives the drink a fresh feel to its presentation and flavor. We could easily see this as a drink to sip while sitting on your back porch or at a gathering with friends.
Next to arrive were the ‘Devil Crab’ Croquettes! These beauties are deviled crab cakes made with sweet, flaky blue crab and topped with a bright, garlicky mojo aïoli, and this dish costs $15.95.

Devil Crab Croquettes
It tastes just like a croquette made with crab meat, similar to what you would imagine it to be at first sight. One side of the crab is still hard-shelled, and the belly is much softer, which is where you’ll likely dig into the meat that awaits you. As for how it tastes, it almost has a paté consistency to the deviled crab cake found inside — we couldn’t distinguish any large pieces.

Inside of the crab
We could certainly taste and appreciate the crab meat’s flavor against the red and green peppers that gave a nice audible crunch with each bite, though. It wasn’t anything too briny or overly fishy tasting, and we really liked it! Ideally, we would have held on to our lemon halves and squeezed them over each bite rather than coating it before digging in if we had it to do all over.

Try it with the sauce
While each crab was good on its own, we really loved the enhanced flavor we got when we dipped our bites into the aïoli sauce. The garlic mojo taste created an herbaceous element to the otherwise singularly noted flavor of crab croquette, and that’s when we started savoring each forkful. You could easily order this one as an appetizer to share with somebody, as you’re waiting for your food, or if you’re looking for a lighter meal, make it your main course.
And last, but certainly not least to arrive, was the ‘8th Street Frita’ Burger. This dish is made of prime beef chorizo and served with crispy potatoes and salsa de tomate. You’ll also have a choice of seasoned fries, and we chose the truffle fries to accompany our burger. This meal will cost you $17.95.

8th Street Frita Burger
This dish is an interesting one. While the bread could scream “sandwich,” there’s real meat inside of it, just like you would find in a burger. When we tried this burger, its flavor didn’t taste much like beef chorizo, but seasoned ground beef as a charred burger, almost reminiscent of a hamburger steak. The grilling and mild smokiness to it resulted in charred tastes you might find on a charbroiled burger patty, which was a true gift to add to the flavor profile radiating off of this burger.

Inside of the burger
The crispy potato pieces and melted cheese on top complement the burger well, but the star of the show here is the salsa de tomate. It adds a roasted tomato presence to the burger’s flavor, almost like chipotle without the heat. It was familiar, and yet hard to place at the same time, but we enjoyed it. All of this was followed up by crisp onions along the bottom bread under the burger patty. We also got a choice of seasoned fries to accompany the burger, and we chose the truffle fries.

Truffle Fries
While these babies aren’t exactly new, they’re some of our favorites to order here due to the shaved toppings and truffle mixed into the bottom of the French fries. They’re cooked just right — not too soft to make them super flimsy and not overcooked to be hard and brittle. Ours was also served with a small spot of ketchup to dip them in.

With a side of ketchup for dipping
There are plenty more Flavors of Florida to discover during this limited-time event! Be sure you get to Disney Springs before it all ends on August 10th!
