Disney World’s new pirate-themed lounge, The Beak and Barrel, is set to open soon! While we’re excited to experience this new swashbuckling experience, some things have us concerned.
Opening later this year in the Magic Kingdom Adventureland, this Pirates of the Caribbean-inspired lounge is described by Disney as a “rambunctious watering hole (that would) offer a welcoming haven for all pirate-kind, big and small, and everyone in between. Here, bandits and buccaneers-to-be from every corner of the seven seas are welcome to join together and raise a toast to the pirate life!”
Reservations Will be Hard to Get
Given the usual rush to any new Disney World establishment combined with the enduring popularity of Pirates of the Caribbean, it doesn’t seem like a stretch to imagine that reservations will be hard to get for the Beak and Barrel, similar to the initial popularity of Oga’s Cantina over in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge.
Crowds
Even with reservations, the Beak and Barrel is going to be crowded, likely with parties assigned to every available table space. Given that, it may be tough for guests to move around the lounge and take in all of its rooms and thematic elements, which, according to Disney, will include:
The Mess: A large central space themed as a former mess hall for Spanish soldiers, The Mess features long tables that span the room, “allowing for pirates to gather ‘round and tell their own tales, while an imposing anchor covered in candles and dripping wax hangs high above. A large bar anchors one side of the room, cobbled together from salvaged portions of a cursed shipwreck. At its center, the skull-shaped stern holds an impressive collection of grogs and brew. Guests may also spot the Enchanted Rum Bottle, which was gifted to Merry by the enchantress Tia Dalma and seemingly serves as the source of the tavern’s specialty brews, or Rummy hobbling along the bar’s ledge, greeting the patrons and keeping a close eye on the crew while Merry is away. “
The Captain’s Quarters: Themed as the former living space of a Spanish Comandante, the luxurious Captain’s Quarters featuring intricate theming including “fine artwork and drapery”on the walls, much of which “hasn’t escaped slashing blades or burn marks over the years by rambunctious pirates” and group of five ships in a bottle sitting on the mantle mounted above the fireplace that are “rumored to represent pirates from every corner of the world banding together to defeat tyranny.” According to Disney, guests should “keep a weathered eye out, as these mysterious bottles have been known to come alive and engage in a fearsome battle.”
Time Crunch
In addition to the crowds, guests likely won’t be able to experience the whole restaurant due to a time limit. The comparable is Oga’s Cantina, which still maintains a time limit of 45 minutes per party.
Drinks Will be Expensive
Whether speaking of Oga’s, Trader Sam’s Grog Grotto, or the new GEO-82, all of Disney World’s heavily themed lounges feature expensive drinks, many of which can be purchased in collectible glassware. It seems likely that the Beak and Barrel’s as-yet-announced offerings of “refreshing cocktails for Guests ages 21 and up” will follow suit.
Bottleneck?
Outside of the Beak and Barrel itself, the new cantina’s presumed popularity will likely bring heavier crowds to the back corner of Adventureland and Caribbean Plaza, which, combined with the massive construction happening in Frontierland, could lead to a bottleneck issue in this area of the park.
While we’re VERY excited for Disney World’s new Pirates of the Caribbean lounge to open, it may not be smooth sailing initially for The Beak and Barrel. Stay tuned to DFB for more on the Magic Kingdom’s newest additions!

Doubt it will be open when I am down there in late August but I really want to go. Who cares about the cost. With the Magicband, everything is free until you get home.
We are very excited, and eager to hear how it goes. I hope there is less reliance on standing tables like in Oga’s. The concept art seems to feature primarily seated guests. Hoping this is more like GEO-82 in terms of how it operates. Also hope it will be one of the places open during extended evening hours and nighttime ticked events. Being able to get a reservation here that I can enjoy in my pirate garb at a halloween party is in my top ten Disney dreams.
Jim you gave me a lol 😂
I always say the same thing about cost. Have a great trip. We will be there in mid September can’t wait.
Just noticed that the Beak & Barrel name was added to the Magic Kingdom map on the MyDisney app.
Still doubt that it would open during my time there.
