When it comes to eating, Disneyland has some of our favorite restaurants and food. Seriously, what can beat a fresh churro and that cheesy garlic pretzel bread? NOTHING, we say! But what about some of those restaurants we don’t talk about much, like Troubadour Tavern in Disneyland’s Fantasyland?
Well, we recently stopped by Troubadour Tavern to check out some food and get you a full review of this quick-service dining spot that just happens to reside in The Happiest Place on Earth. So let’s get to our thoughts.
Atmosphere
You’ll find Troubador Tavern in Fantasyland near “it’s a small world” and next to Fantasyland Theater. The concept is basically a fantasy tavern, but you may notice that it’s really just a counter.
There is some shaded seating next to the theater and next to the bathrooms. But there aren’t a lot of tables available, so finding seating is tricky.
Also, with the Pixar Pals Playtime Party happening in the theater, seating is even harder to come by in the area. If you’re going to grab food here, you might have to take it elsewhere to eat. However, note that you may at least be able to find a seat in the bleachers at the theater, so that’s something.
But enough about the restaurant — what’s on the menu here?!
Menu
The menu here features some unique snacks that you won’t find elsewhere, like stuffed baked potatoes, mac & cheese bites, and more.
And now, onto the main event — the food!
Eats
First up, we grabbed the Fireside Mac & Cheese Bites for $11.49. These are Fried Gouda Mac and Cheese Bites tossed in Four-Chile Rub. Okay, you already know we’re a sucker for anything Mac and Cheese, right? First, a quick note: you can get these without the chile rub if you’re averse to spicy. We wanted spicy, so we opted in. The spicy does have a kick, but it’s not a BIG kick, so you might actually be okay with it. It’s Disney spicy, not set-your-lips-on-fire spicy. But it does linger a little.
The breading is light, but the macaroni and cheese wasn’t quite as creamy as we would’ve liked. This is definitely a fun and easy way to eat mac and cheese, though, plus we think kids will like it.
Next up was the Chicken Pot Pie Baked Potato for $11.99. It’s basically Chicken Pot Pie Filling dumped into a Baked Potato with Pie Crust Crumble. So…y’all…this is kinda’ brilliant. Because it tastes exactly like it sounds. There’s so much of the filling, too, that you kinda’ forget you’re eating a baked potato, although you get that extra potato in there. You get lots of peas and carrots, too, plus the chicken is cooked perfectly and seasoned well.
Honestly, this tasted like a home-cooked meal, and Disney just NAILED IT. The pie crust crumbles add a nice texture that pulls it all together. So, Disney, well done, and more of this, please?
You can get other baked potatoes here, but while this exists, why would you?
Drinks
We ordered the Dancing Shimmering Lights to drink, which is a Sweet Berry Lemonade with a Blackberry Topper and Colorful Sanding Sugar for $7.99. The most forward flavor of the drink is almost like blue raspberry. You don’t get a lot of the lemonade flavor.
But what takes this over the top is blackberry topper cream that adds a nice thickness to the drink.
However, WARNING: this drink will turn your mouth blue, but that’s a small price to pay. We’d order it again because it reminded us of an elevated blue ICEE with some carbonation and a slight lemon flavor. REFRESHING, y’all.
Nosh or Not
This Disney World restaurant is a must-visit if…
- You want to grab a quick bite. If you’re looking to grab some food quickly, the lines are usually short here, plus you can use Mobile Order.
- You want to eat on the go. If you want to grab something to eat really quickly on the go, this could be a good option for you.
- You have picky eaters. Even the baked potato we ordered had a non-spicy version, but you can also get regular baked potatoes, which should please pickier eaters.
You should skip this Disney World spot if…
- You need a place to sit down. If you’re looking for a spot to rest your feet while you eat, this may not be the place because tables and chairs are hard to find in the area.
- You want more variety. The menu here is very limited, so you only have a few options to choose from.
- You want a table service meal. Troubadour Tavern is just a quick-service counter so you won’t get that table service dining experience here.
Overall
The food at Troubadour Tavern usually doesn’t disappoint, and it should have some options for pickier eaters. However, the limited seating could be a problem for those who want to sit and eat at an actual table, although if you look, you can sometimes find seating nearby (although you may not get a table).
In the meantime, we’ll be on the lookout for more restaurant updates from Disneyland, Disney World, and beyond. Make sure you stay tuned to the Disney Food Blog for the latest Disney news and more!
