A new playground is in the works for Disney’s Hollywood Studios!

You might have thought Disney World had its hands full with changes at Disney’s Hollywood Studios between a new Monsters Inc. themed rollercoaster and land and two new shows. However, it seems that Disney World isn’t quite finished with new offerings for one of its most popular parks! They’ve just made some HUGE announcements about one of the lands we’ve had our eyes on for a while, and fans will be thrilled to hear it’s getting even more TLC soon!
In a recent announcement, Disney World just confirmed the Animation Courtyard area of Disney’s Hollywood Studios will close to make way for NEW experiences. While we’re thrilled to see more attention being put into this land of the park, the new additions are bringing on the nostalgic feels of attractions that used to be found here.

One of the biggest announcements Disney World made that would be coming to Animation Courtyard was plans for the “Drawn to Wonderland” playground addition. This playground will be filled with an oversized flower garden complete with musical instruments, a Mad Tea Party play set, and a Tulgey Wood exploration area heavily inspired by the original “Alice in Wonderland” concept art from Disney Legend Mary Blair. Best of all, this whimsical play area for little ones will be set indoors, allowing even more comfort for their curiosities to grow!

This announcement joins other planned additions to Animation Courtyard where you can explore and create, meet with characters, and once again learn to draw a few of your favorite Disney pals when “The Magic of Disney Animation” opens at Disney’s Hollywood Studios next year. Disney has also confirmed that these new experiences will join the already existing (and recently reopened) The Little Mermaid – A Musical Adventure show that’s become a welcome addition to the entertainment lineup offered, especially during the hot summer months.
Disney fans from decades past may remember another playground based on “Honey, I Shrunk The Kids” that featured larger-than-life camera film rolls, insects that buzzed, and features that spouted when you stepped in specific areas — this almost sounds like that, and we can’t wait to learn more!
We’ll be sure to keep an eye on changes within the park and future announcements Disney will make about these upcoming additions! Be sure to check back in with us at Disney Food Blog soon.

Indoor and seating for parents! Win win!
It’s really great to see a lot of classic IP in the artwork for this new space (featured in a different article). It sounds like the cool Star Wars parties that used to be held here are firmly in the past. There was a cool Star Wars based Disney Visa photo op that was in the area for a while, but I admit it seemed pretty makeshift and temporary. It sounds like this might be a place for some cool photos too, and dare I hope for a new after hours ticketed event…? 😊Maybe a new place to meet the Mad Hatter, and other rare characters who have been displaced?
