Flying into Orlando just got a little less stressful.
If you’re planning a Disney World trip this fall, there are a few new airport rules you’ll want to know before you even leave home. The good news? Some of the biggest travel pain points are getting smoother, from TSA lines to carry-on rules. Here’s what’s changing (and what to prep for) the next time you’re flying into Orlando International Airport (MCO).
You Can Now Keep Your Shoes On
Yep, that awkward moment at security where you’re hopping on one foot and hoping your sock doesn’t have a hole? Over. As of July 8th, 2025, TSA officially dropped the shoe removal requirement at all airports—including Orlando. The change is thanks to their cutting-edge technological advancements and multi-layered security approach.

MCO Airport
Basically they can now analyze footwear without needing you to strip down, so your sneakers, sandals, or Minnie-themed Crocs can stay firmly on your feet. It’s a small change, but if you’ve ever tried wrestling a toddler and a laptop and your shoes in the security line, you know it’s a game-changer.
Families Get Their Own Security Lanes
This one feels like it’s been a long time coming. TSA is officially expanding a program that started right at Orlando Airport—special “Families on the Fly” lanes. These are wider, less rushed security lines that give families a little more breathing room (and yes, a little more patience, too).
Think fewer glares when your toddler melts down or your diaper bag needs to be triple-scanned. These lanes are designed with strollers, baby bottles, and young kids in mind. If you’re flying with littles this fall, definitely look for signage when you arrive at security — you might get waved into the family lane automatically.
Military Members Get Free PreCheck and Dedicated “Honor Lanes”
Here’s one more reason Orlando is leading the way: MCO now has dedicated Honor Lanes for military members, their spouses, and Gold Star families. Even better? You don’t need to pay for PreCheck—access is free if you’re eligible.
There are even mobile sign-up stations in the terminals, so if you forgot to set it up ahead of time, you can still get it done on-site. These lanes work just like PreCheck: faster, less invasive screening with way shorter lines. TSA is planning to roll this out nationwide, but Orlando’s ahead of the curve here.
REAL ID Is Now Enforced—And Orlando Isn’t Playing Around
After years of delays and extensions, the REAL ID rule is officially live as of May 2025. That means if your state-issued ID doesn’t have the little star in the corner, you’re probably not getting through TSA without extra screening—or possibly not at all.
Don’t assume your regular license is enough just because it worked last year. A passport still works too, but if you’re relying on a standard driver’s license, make sure it’s REAL ID-compliant before you get to the airport.
The 3-1-1 Liquid Rule Might Be On Its Way Out
The days of rationing shampoo and praying your moisturizer doesn’t get flagged could be numbered. TSA is actively testing tech that might finally end the 3-1-1 liquids rule. That means bigger bottles, fewer plastic baggies, and one less rule to memorize at 4 AM.
Right now, it’s still in the testing phase, but Orlando is one of the key airports being considered for pilot programs. So if you’re flying this fall, you’ll still need to follow the usual 3.4-ounce rule for now, but don’t be surprised if Orlando becomes one of the first airports to loosen it. We’ll keep you posted.
The Bottom Line
Orlando International is one of the busiest airports in the country, especially during Disney season. These new rules are aimed at making things smoother and faster, but only if you know what to expect.
Here’s the quick cheat sheet before your flight:
- No more shoe removal. TSA says keep ‘em on.
- Flying with kids? Look for the new family lanes.
- Military families? Use the Honor Lanes for faster screening—for free.
- REAL ID? You need it now. Check your license for the star.
- Liquids rule? Still in place, but it might be changing soon.
We’ll be keeping tabs on all the latest travel changes, especially anything that affects your Disney World trip. Because the last thing you want is airport drama before you’ve even made it to the castle.
