We’ve said it before, and we’ll repeat it — breakfast at Disney World is not an easy feat. When you’re so excited to get to the parks to have the best day ever, breakfast can fall by the wayside as you hurry to book Lightning Lanes, dinner reservations, and worry about what your first attraction of the day will be. That’s why we love a quick, on-the-go breakfast!
We went to Kona Island at the Polynesian Village Resort to see if this is a great spot to grab breakfast before running to the park. Come with us for a full review to see if this needs to be your next breakfast spot.
Atmosphere
This small, counter-service spot, located inside the Polynesian, is your go-to for on-the-go options.
There’s not a lot of seating, so you might want to wander through the area to grab a table or head outside to enjoy the views. You can even wrap it up, put it in your backpack, and wait till you’re inside the park to eat your breakfast.
We love stopping here before heading to Magic Kingdom because they have family-friendly options that are easy to grab. Sometimes we’ll have someone in our group grab breakfast and bring it back to the hotel room!
We’re ready to order, so let’s check out the menu.
Menu
Kona Island has a bakery case filled with a variety of pastries and desserts. These will change throughout the day, so when you’re walking by, make sure to take a peek to see what’s there. They also have plenty of bottled beverages and a coffee bar, too.
It’s going to be your typical bakery case with muffins, croissants, cinnamon rolls, and more.
The menu looks great, so let’s eat!
Eats
We started with the Cinnamon Roll for $4.99.
We’re not being dramatic when we say we’re cinnamon roll experts (we have literally had them everywhere across Disney World property). Was this the best cinnamon roll we’ve ever had? No. Will it do in a pinch for a quick breakfast? Yes!
There are lots of layers, and you can see the cinnamon filling. It was sweet and had that fluffy dough with royal icing on top that helped tie it all together. The outside is a bit on the drier side and a bit harder, but the inside was delicious. We wish there were more filling, but for those who are picky eaters, this is a great option.
Next, we got the Blueberry Muffin for $4.49.
We had no idea a blueberry muffin could make us so happy. It reminded us of eating pound cake, which is an excellent choice for breakfast. It was fluffy, moist, and truly cake-like. Yes, we know that muffins and cakes are very similar, but we were feeling the cake vibes. There are whole blueberries inside, but not an insane amount. They had a nice flavor but weren’t overwhelmingly tart or sweet. There’s a crumble on top which brings you back to the muffin flavors, and with the sugar, it feels like it’s melting in your mouth. There were no artificial flavors, and it was a bit sticky on the wrapper. This is a total hit!
We also tried the Cheddar and Egg Croissant for $6.99.
This typically features bacon, but when we visited, they were out of bacon that day, so it was just cheese, egg, and a croissant, which we didn’t mind. This croissant was underestimated but overdelivered! The American cheese was gooey and was layered inside the folded egg.
The croissant was flaky but not too crispy or crunchy. It brought just a smidge of sweetness to the savory eggs. The eggs were perfectly cooked and had that perfect bite to them, and everything was balanced in terms of cheese, saltiness, and sweetness. We’re definitely going to be picking this one up again!
We finished our breakfast with a Chocolate-Hazelnut Croissant for $4.79.
If you’re a hardcore Nutella fan, be warned that this croissant is not heavy on the chocolate-hazelnut spread. While the croissant was flaky and airy, we needed way more filling. We enjoyed the chunks of dark chocolate, and when you got a bite of the spread, chocolate, and croissant all in one, it was good, but we thought it leaned more towards the bitter side. We might opt for a different croissant next time we’re here.
Nosh or Not
You should stop by Kona Island if…
- You’re staying at the Polynesian and want an easy breakfast
- You like easy, affordable bakery case items
- You have pickier eaters in your group and are looking for a stop with traditional offerings
Kona Island might be a skip if…
- Heading to the Polynesian isn’t convenient for you
- You want a bigger or longer breakfast
- You want more options to choose from, especially savory dishes
Overall
This was a great stop to visit! If you’re staying at the Polynesian, this can be a great way to grab some breakfast before heading to the parks and can save the day when you need a quick snack. There are many traditional sweet offerings that feature classic flavors, which we really enjoyed, and we’re still dreaming about the egg croissant and the gooey cheese. We might not go out of our way to eat here, but if it’s a convenient spot for you, Kona Island has great breakfast offerings.
We can’t wait to stop by this spot again to try some more breakfast bites. Make sure you keep following Disney Food Blog for more of the best food reviews for your next Disney World trip.
