When it comes to movies, we find ourselves obsessed with animation!

We are known for our love of Disney, but any animation is welcome in our home! Now, thanks to A24, a new movie is coming to the United States that we never expected to see.
A hugely popular Chinese animated film is headed to the United States! According to Los Angeles Magazine, Ne Zah 2 was released in January 2025 and has since become the highest-grossing animated film ever, making over $2 billion. Now, thanks to A24, the movie is coming to the U.S. on August 22nd.

The film comes after Ne Zha, which was released in 2019 and grossed $726 million. After the success of the sequel, A24 is producing an English-dubbed version of the film starring Academy Award winner Michelle Yeoh alongside Crystal Lee, Vincent Rodriguez III, and Aleks Le. The story of the film is about “a rebellious young boy, Ne Zha,” who is feared by the gods and born to mortal parents with wild, uncontrolled powers. Now he’s faced with an ancient force intent on destroying humanity, he must grow up to become the hero the world needs.” The film focuses on themes like parental sacrifice, dedication, and the pursuit of justice.

Yeoh shared a statement saying, “I’m honored to be part of ‘Ne Zha 2’, a landmark in Chinese animation and a powerful reminder of how universal our stories can be. Sharing this with audiences in English is such a joy, and I can’t wait for everyone to experience the wonder, heart, spectacular artistry, and magic of this film on the big screen.” The movie’s first trailer was released on July 22nd, which you can see below.
The new film really signaled a comeback story at the Chinese box office. In 2024, box office revenue in China has declined by 25% compared to the year before. This film utilized 138 animation studios to create this “technical triumph,” which became the highest-grossing animation film of all time. At the time of writing, the film alone makes up half of the Chinese box office. It’s sold 300 million tickets domestically, which represents roughly one-fifth of China’s population.
