For better or worse, things are changing at the Disneyland Resort.
Disneyland is currently celebrating its 70th anniversary in style with special shows, theming, snacks, and much more! In fact, the return of some nighttime entertainment has us changing up the ways we’re spending our evenings at The Happiest Place on Earth!
One of the best offerings of Disneyland’s 70th Anniversary Celebration — without a doubt — has been the return of the Paint the Night nighttime parade! This fan-favorite parade — along with the return of the Wondrous Journeys fireworks spectacular — has created a new purpose when it comes to how guests spend their evenings at Disneyland Park.
With that in mind, the return of these nighttime shows will change your plans in one of two ways. For starters, you might want to make it a point to see these shows!
For either, you’ll want to set aside an hour or two to claim your spot for viewing. Wondrous Journeys happens in front of Sleeping Beauty Castle with projections all along Main Street, U.S.A.
As for Paint the Night, the parade makes its way from “it’s a small world” all the way down Main Street, as well.
The second option is avoiding crowds. Navigating the park during these events is a nightmare, and if you don’t want to have to weave in and out of crowds, you can either use showtimes to find rides with lower wait times or leave the park before the shows happen. If you’re not into parades and fireworks, leaving before will mean you avoid the big rush, or you can count on a bulk of guests not riding rides at the moment, and take advantage of that fact.
We’ve been going to Disneyland for YEARS and have dealt with nighttime shows in both ways — skipping altogether or camping out and waiting. There is no right or wrong way to go about these nighttime shows, but it is important to be aware of them before your trip so you can plan accordingly.

Well, I just returned from Disneyland and then there occasionally, Much less than Walt Disney World though.
I respectfully have to disagree with you, I think the cast at Disneyland does much better job at crowd control, and moving people than they do in the Magic Kingdom here, where I coincidentally am as I type this.
Coordinating the parade, pyro and Fantasmic etc., night after night, In a theme park as nimble as Disneyland I think it’s astonishing.
Yes, of course planning and strategic planning is necessary however, last night at the Magic Kingdom, between two Starlight parades (Which is really disappointing compared to Paint the Night in DL,) after just spending a week in Disney Disneyland There are too many green behind the ears WDW cast members that really need some more tutelage in regards to crowd control & frankly guest service because it was mayhem.
Edited for content, typing, mistake, please moderator fix. I meant Disneyland does a better job at crowd control not doesn’t thank you
