Something big is happening over in Disneyland. The park is celebrating its 70th Anniversary, and a huge celebration with special decor, entertainment, merchandise, food, attractions, and more is happening RIGHT NOW.
But there’s a big problem for those who want to visit Disneyland for this big celebration — a LOT of rides are closed at the moment. Now, ride closures happen all the time because rides need maintenance every once in a while. But the number of rides in Disneyland that are closed right now is…well, it’s a lot for a park that’s trying to get people to visit it during a big event. Let’s break all these ride closures down.
So what’s most surprising about the ride closures is that many include classic rides, which folks will certainly want to ride to celebrate the park’s 70th Anniversary. For example, in Fantasyland, the classic Storybook Land Canal Boats, an opening day attraction, is currently closed, and Disney has not yet announced a reopening date.
Another opening day attraction, Casey Jr. Circus Train, is in the same boat (pun intended). This ride is currently closed for refurbishment with no opening date announced.
Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln closed to make way for “Walt Disney: A Magical Life.” However, Disney previously announced that Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln, an opening day attraction, would eventually share the same space as the new attraction. However, Disney has not announced when that might happen.
ANOTHER opening day attraction, Mark Twain Riverboat, is set to close on September 8th with an anticipated opening date of September 12th.
Main Street Cinema is also set to close on September 8th. However, Disney has not yet revealed an anticipated reopening date for the attraction.
The classic Big Thunder Mountain Railroad is also scheduled to close for refurbishment on September 2nd, with no reopening date yet revealed.
In Tomorrowland, Star Tours — The Adventures Continues is also currently closed for refurbishment. Disney has not yet revealed a reopening date.
Haunted Mansion is also closed through August 22nd to make way for Haunted Mansion Holiday, its Nightmare Before Christmas overlay. This overlay will remain in place through January, when the ride will close again to remove the overlay.
In Disney California Adventure, the highly popular IncrediCoaster is currently closed, but is expected to reopen on August 15th.
Another super popular ride, Radiator Springs Racers, is set to close on August 18th. Disney has not yet revealed when the ride might reopen.
Monsters, Inc. Mike & Sulley to the Rescue! will close permanently in early 2026. The ride and part of the backlot near it will soon be transformed into the new Avatar land coming to California Adventure.
That’s a lot of ride closures during a time that Disneyland is going to be its busiest for both the 70th Anniversary Celebration and Halloween Time. This could mean the parks feel more crowded because there are fewer things to do, meaning other ride lines could be longer.
If you’re visiting Disneyland during this time, you might want to invest in Lightning Lane Multi Pass (and Lightning Lane Single Pass for those rides that offer it) to cut down your time in standby lines. Although, in my experience, rope dropping is a great strategy for knocking out a lot of rides quickly with shorter lines in both parks.

Glad we went in June. The only attraction that was closed was the Matterhorn.
