We’re going to level with you — the amount of lies and ridiculous Disney conspiracies some folks believe is getting out of control.
The Disney Parks — for as long as they have existed — have been subject to conspiracies, wild claims, and flat-out lies. Whether due to folklore, boredom, misunderstandings, or fibs told for the fun of it, Disney Adults have had enough and are calling out these lies and conspiracies.
Going over every single Disney lie would take forever, but seven truly stand out, and we’re setting the record straight on these fallacies.
1. Walt Disney’s Frozen Head Is Stored In A Disney Park
There have been several variations of the “Walt’s head is cryogenically frozen” lie. All of them are incorrect.
Whether it’s his whole body or just his head, the rumor that part of or all of Walt Disney is cryogenically frozen and stored either underneath Cinderella Castle in Magic Kingdom or somewhere in Disneyland is just absurd.
When Walt Disney passed, his remains were cremated, and they now reside at a designated site in Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Glendale, California. His death certificate was signed by a licensed mortuary attendant, his family has verified his death, and his daughter, Diane, has even said, “There is absolutely no truth that my father, Walt Disney, wished to be frozen. I doubt that my father had ever heard of cryonics.”
Of course, people won’t let silly facts get in the way of a juicy rumor. In fact, just a few weeks after Walt’s death in 1966, a reporter for a tabloid claimed that he snuck into the hospital where Walt was being treated and claimed that he saw Walt in a cryogenic cylinder. Now, apparently, he’s just waiting for technology to catch up so he can be “defrosted”. However, we assure you that if you go hunting the Disney World utilidors (underground tunnels) for frozen heads, all you’ll find are storage spaces, break rooms, and other normal Disney means of operation. If you dig below Pirates of the Caribbean at Disneyland, you’ll be left disappointed when you don’t discover a secret chamber.
2. No One Dies At Disney
There’s been a longstanding rumor that Disney doesn’t ALLOW guests to die on property at any of their resorts/parks. This has been factually disproven, but the rumor does make a little bit of sense.
The lie is that Disney has a secret policy where they declare people dead after they’re off-site. Unfortunately, people HAVE tragically died at both Disneyland and Disney World. Several accidents have happened over the decades, both including ride disasters and medical emergencies. Cast Members have been involved in fatal accidents as well. You might not hear about them nonstep because Disney has some great PR, but they’re still on the public record.
Many times, something will happen at the parks that causes someone to be declared deceased off-site, and in that case, sure, they didn’t technically die at Disney. But, it’s sad to say, there have been a number of fatalities that have happened on-site that are easy to look up with a quick Google search.
3. Turkey Legs Aren’t Made Of Turkey
Alright, we’re not going to spend too much time on this one because it’s beyond ridiculous, but the notion that Disney’s turkey legs are actually emu because they’re so big is silly.
If you’re not familiar with turkeys, they can be very big — surprisingly so. This rumor probably started as a joke, but that’s all it is. It wouldn’t make sense for Disney to spend tons of resources on cooking up emu legs when turkey is a popular poultry that is easily accessible and a common delicacy.
4. One Of The Haunted Mansion Busts Is Modeled After Walt
Ah, finally, a harmless fib! We make our way to the Haunted Mansion attraction at Disney World and Disneyland to settle a rumor. No, the Singing Bust in the graveyard scene that sort of looks like Walt is NOT modeled after him.
We admit, one of the Singing Busts (also known as the Mellomen) does have a striking resemblance to Walt, but it’s actually modeled after singer Thurl Ravenscroft! Ravenscroft is the well-known voice actor behind characters like the Frosted Flakes mascot, Tony the Tiger. He’s also behind the hit “You’re a Mean One, Mr. Grinch.”
Another fun fact: you can hear him sing “Grim Grinning Ghosts” alongside the rest of the quartet!
5. The “Andy’s Coming” Trend Still Works
A while back, a Disney trend went viral when Toy Story characters would drop to the ground and not move when someone yelled, “Andy’s coming!” However, this is no longer the case.
Referencing the movies’ plot point of the toys pretending to be inanimate in the presence of humans, this trend became too popular for its own good. Instead of it happening infrequently, everyone and their mother started shouting “Andy’s coming!”, creating an unsustainable workout for the characters.
Disney had to make an official policy against the characters doing this, and now “Andy’s coming!” is a thing of the past.
Lines Are Always Long For Everything
We’re going to come to Disney’s defense in the next two points. Starting us off is the lie that the Disney Parks are packed without a moment’s peace — featuring long lines for EVERYTHING.
Yes, the Disney Parks are usually pretty packed, and it’s not hard to find long wait times. But visiting and finding short waits and not a ton of foot traffic is not exactly a miracle, either.
There are tons of variables at play that could create short wait times. The date you visit matters (holidays, weekdays vs. weekends, month, events, etc., all influence park attendance). Weather matters (storms can scare away guests). Time of day matters (you might find short or no lines in the morning or late at night). It’s all about timing your visit to find optimal park attendance numbers — or simply getting lucky.
7. All Theme Park Food Is Bad
Theme parks have a reputation for offering overpriced slop. And while we understand the stigma, the Disney Resorts certainly feature TONS of delicious meals, snacks, drinks, and desserts.
From the world-class restaurants at Disney World’s hotels, parks, and offerings at Disney Springs, to the consistently phenomenal eats at Disneyland, Disney features some of our favorite food in the ENTIRE WORLD!
From fancy Michelin Star restaurants to affordable, yet tasty festival snacks, the Disney resorts have it all, and you’re likely to find something for every palate.
We’ve officially done our homework and are putting these lies to bed…but our work’s not done! We’ll continue busting myths and bringing you ACCURATE updates from the Disney Parks all over the world!
