With a roster of nearly 30 hotels, there’s arguably a stay for every kind of traveler on Walt Disney World property. However, some of the resorts could use a bit of TLC.
Over my 30 years visiting Disney World, I’ve spent a significant amount of time at each of these properties, which run the gamut of Disney’s hotel tiers, from Value through Moderate, all the way to the Deluxe level.
All-Star Movies
While arguably all three of the Disney All-Star hotels could use a shot of life, there’s no more than All-Star Movies. The resort is built around five Disney properties: Toy Story, Fantasia, Herbie the Lovebug, 101 Dalmatians, and the Mighty Ducks franchise. While the first two are still quite relevant, the latter three are, to be blunt, not.
While we love somewhat obscure Disney, they’re not the best choice for a massive hotel geared at families with young kids. This is especially true for All-Star Movies, since another Value Tier resort — the Art of Animation Resort — has a similar theme, only with films much more relevant to viewers born this century.
The Caribbean Beach Resort
Disney’s first moderate resort opened in 1988, and it shows. Now, don’t get me wrong, the hotel is kept up well and certainly feels well-maintained, but the overall vibe retains a very late ’80s feel.
However, the bigger issue is the hotel’s layout. It’s a large property with infrastructure that can be tough to navigate, and which can feel desolate in certain areas.
The Boardwalk
Finally, there’s the Deluxe entry on the list: The Boardwalk. Accommodation-wise, this Deluxe Resort is one of Disney World’s best; however, the area that could use a bit of life is its literal Boardwalk. The closure of the dueling-piano bar JellyRolls has left a gaping hole in this area’s nighttime entertainment offerings. Until and unless a new venue opens, the area is going to feel a bit lifeless after dark.

I agree that Disney needs to bring some magic back to he Boardwalk. I remember when there were jugglers and magicians entertaining people, all the games were open and there were no empty restaurants. They could really use an affordable, family-friendly restaurant with a menu that appeals to a variety of people. The hotel itself is great, but the boardwalk definitely needs some help.
