There MAY be some major Disney news incoming.
Later this month, Disney will host the Destination D23 event at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida. During the three-day event, which runs from August 29th through the 31st, Disney will likely announce some big and exciting news.
Devilish Details
At last year’s D23 Ultimate Fan Event in Anaheim, Disney announced — after over 30 years of rumors — that a Villains Land is coming to the “beyond” Big Thunder Mountain expansion pad at the Magic Kingdom.
At the time, Disney confirmed that the land would be “home to two major attractions, dining, and shopping on an incredibly twisted grand scale.” We’re hoping that this year, Disney will release some more information on these offerings, particularly the themes and perhaps ride systems of the attractions.
Muppet Rock!
In 2024, Disney also announced that the Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith would be rethemed to instead star The Muppets. According to Disney, the new version of the coaster will see Kermit and co. will team up with “some of music’s biggest stars for a rockin’ music festival!”
So far, Disney’s timeline for this change only says the new version will be open in 2026. We’re hoping Disney confirms a bit more, specifically a closing date, so we can say goodbye to the “Bad Boys of Boston” and a tough window for when the Muppet takeover will go live.
When Dinosaur Will Go Extinct
Disney’s Animal Kingdom is undergoing a massive transformation as DinoLand U.S.A. is being transformed into the new Tropical Americas area. Currently, the park’s Dinosaur attraction is still operating even though it’s going to be refurbished into an Indiana Jones attraction. We’re hoping Disney clarifies exactly when Dinosaur is closing in 2026.

The new Tropical Americas land coming to Disney’s Animal Kingdom lets guests explore a preserved Maya temple – and the ensuing adventure – alongside Indiana Jones.
Beyond that, more details on the aforementioned Indiana Jones ride, as well as the land’s upcoming Encanto ride — including names, rough story descriptions, and ride systems — would be welcome.
Disneyland “Forward” Updates
While the Disneyland Forward branding seems to have been dropped, we’re hoping for some further updates on the upcoming additions coming to the Disneyland Resort. These would potentially include story details about the Avengers: Infinity Defense E-Ticket attraction, the name of the upcoming Coco attractions, and information — and the location — of the upcoming Avatar expansion.
These are just some of the major news updates we’re hoping to hear about at the Destination D23 event. And Disney always likes to sprinkle in some big and unexpected surprises, so we are looking forward to those as well! Stay tuned to DFB for full coverage of the event.
