Disney World is constantly changing, and 2026 is shaping up to be a HUGE year for Hollywood Studios.
Between a beloved ride getting a complete reimagining and a whole area of the park transforming into something brand new, you’re going to notice some big differences the next time you visit. If you thought Hollywood Studios couldn’t get more exciting after the additions of Galaxy’s Edge and Toy Story Land, just wait. Let’s break down the two major changes coming to the park in 2026.
Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Gets a Muppet Makeover
For decades, Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith has been a fan favorite at Hollywood Studios. With its high-speed launch, upside-down loops, and iconic “backstage pass” storyline, it’s been a must-do for thrill seekers since it opened in 1999. But in 2026, this classic ride is saying goodbye to Aerosmith and hello to a brand-new theme.
Disney has officially announced that the attraction will permanently close in 2026 to make way for Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring the Muppets. That’s right — Kermit, Miss Piggy, Fozzie, and the gang are movin’ right along to Sunset Boulevard.
Here’s what we know so far: the ride system itself is sticking around, so you’ll still get that heart-pounding launch and those wild inversions, but the storyline, visuals, and soundtrack will all be completely reimagined. Instead of racing to an Aerosmith concert in a stretch limo, you’ll now be joining the Muppets for a chaotic, laugh-filled adventure. If you’ve ever seen a Muppets movie, you know things don’t exactly go smoothly when this crew is involved, and we can only imagine how that translates to a roller coaster.
While some longtime fans will definitely miss the Aerosmith theming, the Muppets are a perfect fit for Hollywood Studios, especially since their presence in the park has been slowly shrinking over the years. This new version of the coaster not only gives the Muppets a major spotlight but also breathes fresh life into one of the park’s only thrill rides.
If you’re planning a trip before the closure, make sure you ride Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith while you still can. And if you’re planning for 2026 and beyond, get ready for one of the most unique coaster experiences Disney has ever created.
Animation Courtyard Transforms into The Magic of Disney Animation
The second major change coming to Hollywood Studios in 2026 is happening in the Animation Courtyard, and honestly, it might be the biggest glow-up the area has ever had.
Currently, the space is home to Star Wars: Launch Bay, Disney Jr. Play and Dance!, and The Little Mermaid — A Musical Adventure. While Launch Bay has been a cool stop for Star Wars fans, the land hasn’t had the same pull as other areas of the park, and Disney is ready to give it a full transformation.
Starting in 2026, Launch Bay will become The Magic of Disney Animation, an area dedicated to celebrating the heart of Disney — animation itself. The redesigned courtyard will look like a slice of the Walt Disney Studios Lot in Burbank, complete with buildings inspired by the original campus. Oh, and if you were a fan of the giant Sorcerer Hat icon that once stood in the center of Hollywood Studios, you’re in luck — you’ll see it return on top of this new animation hub.
Inside, guests can step into an interactive experience that feels like walking into the world of Disney Animation. You’ll see portraits that come to life before your eyes, take part in animation classes where you can sketch your own character, and explore hands-on activities inspired by classic films. The Drawn to Wonderland playground will give kids a chance to climb, play, and explore oversized sets inspired by Mary Blair’s original Alice in Wonderland concept art. Think giant flowers, whimsical instruments, and imaginative play spaces that feel like stepping into a painting.
But it won’t just be for kids. Disney has teased that this will be a place for families to relax, snack, and meet some surprise characters. You might catch Mickey and friends enjoying the area, or even spot other Disney favorites “digging in the grass” or “soaking up the sun” nearby. As part of this transformation, Disney Jr. Play and Dance! will permanently close in September 2025 to make way for the new experiences, but The Little Mermaid — A Musical Adventure will stay put as a staple of the courtyard. Families who love the Disney Jr. shows can look forward to updated character experiences woven into the new animation area.
This reimagining finally gives Animation Courtyard the identity it’s been missing. Instead of being a bit of a catch-all corner of the park, it’s going to become a must-visit hub celebrating the magic that started it all — Disney animation.
Hollywood Studios in 2026 is going to feel like a whole new park. Between a thrilling Muppet-filled roller coaster and a reimagined Animation Courtyard that celebrates Disney’s creative roots, there’s plenty to look forward to. Whether you’re a die-hard thrill seeker or just looking for a new space to play and relax with your family, the park is set to deliver in some major ways.
