Riding the Monorail at Disney World can be magical—or mildly chaotic.
Sure, it’s one of the most iconic parts of the Disney transportation system, but let’s be real—crowds, heat, and the occasional long wait between trains can make the experience a little less “pixie dust” and a little more “please get me out of here.” The good news is, a few simple items can completely change the game. Today we’re breaking down nine things you can bring (or buy) that will make your ride on the Monorail 10x better.
Earplugs or Noise-Canceling Headphones
Disney is filled with joyful sounds—but sometimes you’re not in the mood for all of them. A crying toddler, a loud tour group, or that one guy taking a conference call can turn your peaceful Monorail ride into a mini headache. Earplugs are small enough to toss in your bag, and noise-canceling headphones can double as a way to catch up on your favorite playlist or podcast without interruption.
Cooling Towel or Mini Portable Fan
Most Monorail cars have air conditioning, but they aren’t always perfectly chilled—especially on packed days. If you’re coming from the park in the middle of a sweltering afternoon, stepping into a warm, crowded Monorail car can feel like standing in a humid greenhouse. A cooling towel around your neck or a small portable fan in your bag can make a huge difference until you get moving again.
Small Travel Blanket
This one’s for the people who always pack a sweater for movie theaters. Sometimes the air conditioning in the Monorail cars can be unexpectedly strong, especially if you’ve just gotten soaked on one of the water rides and you’re still drying off. A lightweight travel blanket can keep you cozy, give kids something to snuggle with, or even serve as an impromptu picnic blanket if you want to relax in a park later.
Compact Travel Pillow
If you’ve been going hard from rope drop to fireworks, those Monorail benches can start to look pretty inviting for a power nap. A compact travel pillow is easy to stash in your backpack and can make even a quick ride between parks feel like a mini reset. Bonus: it also makes the floor slightly less awful if a little one ends up sitting cross-legged.
Portable Charger/Power Bank
Between snapping castle photos, mobile ordering meals, and checking attraction wait times, your phone battery doesn’t stand a chance. The Monorail is the perfect spot to give it a quick boost, and having your own portable charger means you’re not scrambling for an outlet later. Opt for one that can fully recharge your phone at least twice—park days are long.
Reusable Water Bottle
Dehydration sneaks up on you fast at Disney. Even if you’re just hopping between resorts or heading to EPCOT, keeping a reusable water bottle with you ensures you can sip while you ride. You’ll save money compared to buying bottled water every time, and many Disney resort hotels have water refill stations you can use before boarding.
Small Fidget Toy
If you’re traveling with kids, a Monorail ride can go from fun to “are we there yet?” in about two minutes. A small fidget toy can keep little hands busy, whether you’re doing a long loop or waiting for your stop. It works for adults too—sometimes a little distraction helps the ride feel faster.
Antibacterial Wipes or Hand Sanitizer
Thousands of people touch those Monorail poles and seat edges every day. Having antibacterial wipes or sanitizer handy means you can quickly clean your hands after grabbing a spot or wipe down a seat before sitting. It’s a small thing that can make you feel a lot more comfortable.
Sunglasses or Hat
The Monorail windows are big, and if you end up near one on a sunny afternoon, that glare can be intense. Sunglasses keep you from squinting through the ride, and a hat can help keep the sun out of your eyes while you’re waiting on the platform. Bonus points if it’s a Disney-themed hat—it’s functional and on brand.
Whether you’re doing a quick hop between Magic Kingdom and EPCOT or just riding the loop for fun, these little upgrades can make the Monorail experience way more enjoyable. Disney days are long, and the Monorail can be more than just transportation—it can be your mini break, your recharge zone, or even your cool-down spot before heading back into the magic. Pack a few of these items and you’ll be ready for anything.

I have enjoyed the blog for years and this is my first comment. Really? Disney guests need noise cancelling headphones, a neck pillow, a phone charger, and more for a 10-15 minute monorail ride? Oh my. Perhaps this group should skip the ride and order a Minnie Van or Uber black.
