If you’re heading to Disneyland Resort soon, there are so many different dining options to try!
Especially if you’re heading to Downtown Disney, which is the shopping and dining district located close to the parks. We realized it had been a while since we’d been to Céntrico, a popular table service spot in the area, and figured it was time to try out some new eats. As it turns out, nothing has changed — this restaurant is INCREDIBLE and we need people to stop sleeping on it!
Céntrico is an open-air Mexican restaurant and bar from Michelin-starred Chef Carlos Gaytán, and you’ll need to make a reservation to dine here, but thankfully, they’re not hard to get during the week. We didn’t have any trouble getting a reservation for ourselves, especially since we were able to sit at the bar!
To start, we grabbed the Smokey Paloma Cocktail for $17, which is made with Mezcal 33 Joven, Fever-Tree grapefruit, lime juice, grapefruit juice, and agave.
This was delicious and very well-balanced, though it is certainly grapefruit-forward. You’ve got some sweetness from the agave, as well as lots of smokiness from the mezcal, so you’ve got to be a fan of both!
Our appetizer was the Avocado Flatbread for $18, which is made with ricotta cheese, avocado, preserved Meyer lemons, salsa macha, serrano, and chives.
We’ll admit: with our first bite of this, we didn’t get the preserved Meyer lemons or the serrano, and we felt it was really missing the acidity. However, once we got that in every bite, we were huge fans! This isn’t a crispy flatbread; it’s a softer bread, so that’s something to keep in mind if you may be adverse to that texture. This is a REALLY big portion, so we think it could easily be used as a meal itself, or it’s best to share with 2-3 people.
Finally, our entree was the Chicken Mole Tacos for $23! These are made with mole negro, sour cream, queso fresco, sesame seeds, pickled red onion, and corn tortillas.
These were so good, they practically changed our reporter’s life. All the ingredients worked beautifully together — the meat was so tender, the mole sauce had a fantastic smoky sweetness to it, and the pickled red onions had a fantastic sharpness and tang that cut through the mole sauce. We also think the onions added a great crunch to the dish, which is great as a texture element since everything else is soft.
