According to Deadline, Snoop Dogg has made comments about Pixar’s 2022 Lightyear movie, which featured a same sex couple.
Lightyear, the Toy Story spinoff, features LGBTQ+ characters and a same sex kiss scene. The film did not play in theaters in certain countries, such as Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Bahrain, Egypt, Kuwait, Oman, and Qatar.
Snoop Dogg appeared on the It’s Giving Podcast, where he said he was scared to bring his grandchildren to the movie theaters over themes and ideas shown in movies.
On the podcast, he said, “What you see is what you see, and they’re putting it everywhere. They’re like, ‘She had a baby — with another woman.’ Well, my grandson, in the middle of the movie, is like, ‘Papa Snoop? How can she have a baby with a woman? She’s a woman!'”
He then said he didn’t come in to deal with these subjects but just wanted to watch a movie. He continued to say that he was scared to go to the movies because it would throw him into the middle of themes he didn’t have an answer for. He also said, “What part of the movie was this? These are kids. We have to show that at this age? They’re going to ask questions. I don’t have the answer.”
When Disney released the movie in 2022, they had a same-sex kiss scene but removed it. They ended up putting it back into the movie before the release.
Earlier this year, Disney pulled a transgender storyline from Pixar’s Wine or Lose TV show. The show was a Disney+ original, and each episode focused on a different player of the co-ed middle school softball team. A Disney spokesperson said, “When it comes to animated content for a younger audience, we recognize that many parents would prefer to discuss certain subjects with their children on their own terms and timelines,’ according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Elio, another Pixar movie, which was released in 2025, was originally supposed to feature LGBTQ+ themes, coming from the film’s original director, Adrian Molina, who is an openly gay filmmaker. These scenes ended up being cut and altered to have the storyline be “more masculine,” according to the Hollywood Reporter. Molina left the project in 2024.
