One of the newest and most popular rides in Disney World is in the Magic Kingdom.
Yep, TRON Lightcycle / Run is one of those rides that has notoriously high wait times, although you can purchase a Lightning Lane Single Pass to bypass the long standby lines. Well, we think the line for the ride might soon get a little longer because it will be getting an update to celebrate the upcoming release of a new movie, Tron: Ares.
Today, at Destination D23, Disney has confirmed that both TRON Lightcycle / Run in Disney World and TRON Lightcycle Power Run in Shanghai Disneyland will soon be getting an overlay to celebrate the release of the new movie Tron: Ares. A vibrant red overlay will replace the current blue hues of the ride.
But that’s not all, because the ride will SOUND different, too. The ride will also be getting some new music by Nine Inch Nails, inspired by the music of the new movie. Disney wrote, “Adding to the immersive visuals, the pulsating industrial sounds of Nine Inch Nails will drive the ride’s energy, pushing your experience between the Grid and reality into a fully immersive, futuristic symphony of light, speed, and sound.”
You can hear some of that music in the Tron: Ares trailer.
The new ride overlay will be happening SOON, too. You’ll be able to experience both TRON rides with their Tron: Ares updates for a limited time on September 15th in Magic Kingdom and September 16th at Shanghai Disneyland.

Nine inch nails?0??
Disney has completely freaking lost it.
Do we know if Tron will be closed any days before the overlay? I was planning on visiting on the 14th!
Ick. Not for me.
I’m 75 years old and I rode TRON on my last visit and loved it!
I love the Nine Inch Nails has moved into soundtracks and now we get to hear some on a Disney ride! I’m sure it will complement the ride perfectly.
