STOP THE PRESSES!
Disney just dropped a major castle-related update, and we’re FREAKING OUT. If you were a fan of the old castle, look at the Magic Kingdom; you’re going to want to book a visit soon.
The classic color scheme is coming back to Cinderella Castle at Disney World.
The colors changed during the 50th anniversary, but it’s officially being painted to go back to the original colors.
“Cinderella Castle at Magic Kingdom is getting a new color palette, inspired by the classic and original look of the castle. The updated paint will feature grays, creams, blues, and touches of gold, aiming to enhance the castle’s architecture.”
Here’s a look at it now! While the 50th symbol in the middle was removed, the pinks and blues have remained, even years later.

I’m so excited they’re going back to the original color scheme! I understood changing it for the 50th, but I think the grey and blue is much prettier and helps it look more distinct.
Why???????? Why fix something if it’s not broke. I was there for the 25th castle and it broke my heart,I couldn’t believe anyone thought that was s good idea. My question is who was setting in a meeting with nothing to add so they came with this idea.
Very much a “Classic Color” person. I was quite sad to see the “Toy Castle” repaint. It does look plastic and fake, lie a big doll house. And maybe that was the idea… I have grown accustomed to it, not shocked anymore by its new garish look, but I don’t take many pictures of it anymore as it is an aesthetic comic-book honor story.
OK, maybe that’s a bit over the top 🙂
I am very happy to se the classic return. When I heard the news, I first assumed it was fake. Too good tobe true. Happy to be wrong.
Now PLEASE bring back the Christmas lights
Guess prices will go up again. It’s going take a lot of paint to cover the castle
I hope they keep the darker grey bricks and the vibrant blue roofs. I can’t say I really minded the pink, but the cream will be more in keeping with an actual castle.
I like the current 50th Anniv. color scheme, but definitely prefer the old blue and gray. It looks more like a real castle.
TEAM CLASSIC ALWAYS!!!!
Thrilled they are returning the castle to it’s old color scheme! I was always so happy Disney World had not adopted the pink and blue that Disneyland’s castle has. I, personally, never liked the pink and blue. The gray, creme and blue with gold touchs seem much more “regal”. So, yay!
I like both, but the 50th color scheme was a little more bright and cheery. But maybe the pink tones will not blend well with theming to come – who knows. Taking it back to classic but more bland colors feels potentially like a jab at the people who are lamenting the loss of classic Disney elements WHEN THERE IS SO MUCH ROOM TO EXPAND. Disney talks out of both sides of their mouths on that point – when they want to gin up support (especially money) for WDW, they talk about their expansion potential. When they actually want to put in new attractions, something gets taken away due to costs, regulations, greenspace, unbuildable, etc. I own that I’m probably a little jaded, but I’m still pretty moderate and Disney-positive relative to a lot of lifetime fans whom they are turning off with their decisions in recent years (and plenty of those fans are far from “old”). It’s also possible that the newer color scheme is somehow just more costly to maintain. That would drive a decision like this as well.
OMG!!!! I’m so excited the OG colors are coming back! Now if only they will bring back the twinkle lights for Christmas!
I’m team please stop covering half the parks in tarpaulins and cranes for years at a time 🙁
I loved the original colors best, however if they had used the old blue instead of the bright neon blue with the pink, I think it would have been a better combination in my opinion.
I did not mind the new paint scheme in daylight, I never liked it at night, I am glad Disney is changing if back.
Team Classic all the way! The anniversary colors were fun for the celebration but I am happy to see it go back. Can’t wait.
AWESOME!! It’s about time! I’m not exactly sure why they painted it pink in the first place. Maybe to pay tribute to Disneyland’s upcoming 70th anniversary – who knows.
But pink is typically Sleeping Beauty’s color – Cinderella’s is blue; therefore the castle in WDW should always be shades of blue and grey.
Team Classic!!
I am a fan of the classic!!!!!!
I’m surprised more people don’t realize that in the hot Florida sun regular repainting is just something that has to be done. I’m sure Disney wanted to make the castle look special for the 50th anniversary (At least they didn’t turn it into a birthday cake!😂) BTW, in the classic Disney cartoon, Sleeping Beauty’s dress was blue. It was momentarily pink while the fairies were arguing about the color, but it ended up blue. In the parks they usually give her a pink dress to differentiate her from Cinderella, but her dress was definitely blue.
They should change the “Magic Kingdom” to “construction kingdom”, it seems like half the park is under construction at once
Team Classic! But please Disney, don’t start this to interfere with the holidays and once started, put it on the fast track!
Team Traditional !!!!!!!
Team Classic!
I’m so happy they’re bringing back the original colors! It looked so much more elegant than the pink.
I’m probably in the minority, but I loved the pink 🙁
Team Classic all the way!!!!
I really enjoyed the pink, but I’m willing to give the classic a good attitude welcome.
I’m loving the idea that they will return to original colors. How long will it take? I do feel bad for any once in a lifetime visitors, or will the majority of the work happen overnight? Like magic 🙂
Bring back the birthday cake! Just kidding – Classic is, well, classic so let’s de-pink.
Team pink for sure!
TEAM CLASSIC 💙
I love the castle whatever it looks like, including, yes, the birthday cake.
I have to say Pooh when people say they were irate by the Birthday Cake castle. I loved it. I thought it was adorable. After 25 years of seeing the castle the colorful change was a welcome sight. I couldn’t stop looking it over every time we went and taking lots of photos. I don’t see the outrage. It was only temporary. Geez. It was imaginative celebratory decorating. Now, the disgusting Stitch mess on the other hand…had no business being on the castle. It was a cheap shot ad.
I’m so happy about this news! Just the other day I was looking at my castle pictures from years ago and wishing it would go back to the look from the past.
Team Classic — nice to have some good news to read of some kind these days!
I’m glad that the castle will return to a more classic look. There was a time in the ’80s when it was painted a darker and more foreboding grey- I hated it! The current pink was okay for the 50th celebration, but the classic colors are what I personally prefer. NEVER return to that hideous birthday cake overlay!!! Now, bring back The Mickey Mouse Musical Revue!
Always Team Classic! Since 1971
