Flying comes with a lot of challenges, especially when flights get disrupted, which happens, well…a lot.
Now, flight delays for weather are pretty normal, and those can’t be controlled, but we’ve recently seen flight delays due to other issues, many of which could be the fault of the airlines. In 2024, President Joe Biden backed a plan that would see passengers compensated for controllable cancellations or delays of three hours or more. Well, that plan has officially been scrapped by the current administration, according to Reuters.
Biden’s plan would put U.S. airlines in line with what many other countries were already doing. The European Union, Canada, Brazil, and the U.K. all have similar airline delay compensation laws. So it might make sense that the U.S. would require flights within the states to do something similar. The Biden plan would have required airlines to pay passengers from $200 to $775 for such disruptions.
However, the plan was criticized by the airlines themselves, and now it’s been dropped. The White House posted a document recently that the Transportation Department plans to withdraw the notice “consistent with department and administration priorities.”

However, in 2022, major U.S. airlines did agree to pay for meals, hotel stays, and other expenses when there’s a significant flight disruption, so if your flight is delayed for a controllable reason, you may still get something.

Yet one of the 1,000 other examples of how this White House administration doesn’t care about the American people. It’s become a heartless dictatorship, but it shouldn’t be surprise. America fails to function with the common sense of Europe and the UK.
