If there’s one thing Disney knows how to do, it’s celebrate BIG.
They often put on massive celebrations for the anniversaries of the company, the parks, or even fan-favorite movies. Right now, they’re celebrating the 70th Anniversary of Disneyland Resort, and if you want to join the celebration from home, there’s a big TV special coming soon.
ABC News Studios is airing “The Happiest Story on Earth: 70 Years of Disneyland – A Special Edition of 20/20” on Sunday, September 21st at 8PM ET. You’ll be able to watch the special on ABC as it highlights the history of Disneyland Resort.
The special “commemorates seven decades of one of the most beloved theme parks in the world.” It will feature reflections from Neil Patrick Harris, Jamie Lee Curtis, Jon Favreau, Patrick Warburton and Tiffany Haddish, as well as a message from Prince Harry and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex.
Disney CEO Bob Iger will share some insight into what the future holds for Disneyland Park, and former Imagineer Bob Gurr will make a (rare) appearance to regale what it was like to work alongside Walt Disney and to be at the park on opening day. In addition, there will be a sneak peek at future Disney California Adventure Park attractions, including “an expansion to Avengers Campus, a Coco attraction and the new Avatar destination.”
The special will be available to watch the next day on Disney+ and Hulu, so you can catch it then if you miss it live. We can’t wait to tune in and celebrate Disneyland!

I was five years old when Disneyland opened and I promised myself that there were three things I would do when I grew up…Go to college, Go to Disneyland and keep a promise I made to a friend (who passed away of
polio before there were vaccines). Well here I am and I’ve accomplished all three. I got to Disneyland at 29, finished college years ago and kept that promise. As a child we didn’t have much money but Disney shows and movies and the library taught me so much about the world and about other cultures and dreams. I once worked with Dick Clark and it was a standing joke that I was five years older than Disneyland and American Bandstand. Over the years while teaching I also worked p/t in one of the original Disney Stores for fifteen year
and while living in Florida worked at the Park for a short time. It’s all so expensive now. .but I always have lessons, friendships and dreams that was the gift of Disneyland.
