Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa is already starting to look much different. Not only is Disney hard at work building a brand-new bar in the hotel’s lobby, but the hotel is also undergoing quite a few other changes. And one of these changes was just revealed, and we have to say, it is GORGEOUS!
If you have walked through the Grand Floridian’s lobby recently, you have probably spotted one of the many construction walls or tarps that are currently adorning the lobby. You will notice lots of walls up in the lobby around the location of the new bar, as well as around what used to be the Garden View Tea Room (but we haven’t seen it open for a long time). About a month ago, we also spotted more scrim and walls up at the staircases off the lobby. Well, we stopped by on September 18th and noticed a STUNNING new addition to the staircase.
The scrim and walls were down, and a beautiful new mural has been revealed. The mural features the Grand Floridian hotel, as well as Sandhill Cranes and lush vegetation. Even the sky looks stunning. We could probably stare at this new mural all day long, and we think it is a wonderful addition to the Grand Floridian lobby. The staircases have also gotten some touch ups too, so this area is looking very refreshed!
We also took another peek at the progress of the new lobby bar. The birdcage is really starting to take shape! While there is still quite a bit of work to go before it will be open, we always love seeing the progress.
The bar will “pay tribute to the resort’s Victorian roots with intricate woodwork, stained glass, and brass accents.” Additionally, the lobby will be getting new furniture and carpeting as part of the transformation.
There are also curtains hanging up by what used to be the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique. As well, the walls are still up around the main check-in area — which have been there for some time. Currently, check-in is located in the lobby, and you will find Cast Members scattered around near the entrance to assist you.
We can’t wait to see what the lobby looks like when all the construction is finished! Stay tuned to DFB for all your Disney World news!

I could live at Animal Kingdom Lodge! Port Orleans French Quarter or Coronado are where we usually stay bc of the better price. Grand Floridian was beautiful before! Yes the mural is nice….the bar is not! Very disappointing the gingerbread house or something new in gingerbread will not be there for the holidays.
I really hope this doesn’t mean we won’t be seeing the gingerbread house again. 😓😥
I would hate to think a bar would replace such a beautiful, unique , Christmas tradition.
