We always love trying out seasonal items around Disney World! There is definitely no shortage of limited-time items available in Disney World right now. From exclusive treats at Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party to special Halloween finds at Disney Springs, we have been indulging in a lot of new food recently. Something new has also arrived at Disney’s BoardWalk, so we headed over to give it a try!
A new seasonal cake slice has arrived at The Cake Bake Shop Bakery, and we recently stopped by to give it a taste test! Introducing the Caramel Popcorn Chocolate Cake. This slice features chocolate cake with caramel, caramel buttercream, caramel drizzle, and caramel popcorn. You can grab it for $22. There is also an Apple Crumb Cake available, and you can also get a Pumpkin Spice Latte, but we decided on the Caramel Popcorn Chocolate Cake.
We think the cakes from Cake Bake are usually gorgeous, and this one is no different. Look at all that sparkle on the cake slice! The gold glitter really pops against the chocolate cake.
We want to give a fair warning that if you purchase this slice from the bakery, it does not come with the caramel popcorn on top of the slice. Instead, you get it in a little baggie in the box, and you can either put it on top yourself or just enjoy it as a little treat. We opted to put some pieces on top, and hopefully our decoration skills are on point!
Alright, we have confirmed the slice looks good, but how does it taste? We are happy to report that the flavors are also wonderful! The cake itself has a lighter chocolate flavor. It isn’t super fudgy or overpowering, but rather a light chocolate flavor. The buttercream was light and creamy, with a great hint of salted caramel flavor.
Plus, between the layers was even more salted caramel. We enjoyed the caramel coming from both the buttercream and the caramel filling. The chocolate and caramel flavors complemented each other well, and we liked that they balanced each other, rather than one overpowering the other.
The caramel popcorn on top was a fun touch, but we didn’t think it was necessary for the overall flavor. It was a bit hard to eat in the same bite as the cake. The popcorn was a bit sticky, and the texture of the soft and fluffy cake did not pair as well with the chewy texture of the popcorn. It might be better if you crumbled it up a bit or just enjoyed the caramel popcorn by itself. Overall, we think this is a great addition to the Cake Bake lineup, especially if you are a chocolate and caramel fan.
