While Walt Disney World has been one of the world’s leading tourist destinations for over 50 years, people still ask the classic question: Will Disney World be empty next year?
There have been hush-hush conversations going on around the Internet that Disney World in 2026 is gonna be relatively slow compared to what we’ve seen in the past… but is there MERIT to those rumors?
Honestly? Maybe. Here’s why…
“WALL” Disney World
In 2026, your trip could feel not like WALT Disney World, but WALL Disney World… a theme park with tons, and tons, and TONS of construction going on. And a LOT of that construction won’t be wrapping up any time soon – especially not in 2026.
Just to give you a recap…
Piston Peak
Tom Sawyer Island and Liberty Square Riverboat in Magic Kingdom permanently closed on July 7th, 2025, to accommodate the construction of two new Cars-themed attractions and a whole Cars-themed area – called Piston Peak – branching out of Frontierland.
And beyond Piston Peak, Magic Kingdom is also developing a whole Villains-themed area.
When is Villains Land opening in Disney World?
The Magic of Disney Animation
On September 25th, Animation Courtyard (including Star Wars Launch Bay and Disney Jr. Play and Dance!) closed for good in Hollywood Studios to make way for The Walt Disney Studios – which will feature The Magic of Disney Animation experience.
6 things Disney World is doing for the first time in 2026
Monsters, Inc. Land
And before that – on May 11th – Mama Melrose’s Ristorante Italiano permanently closed Hollywood Studios to accommodate construction for a new Monsters, Inc. Land.
The remainder of the Muppets Courtyard closed shortly after – on June 8th – which was the last we saw of MuppetVision 3D and PizzeRizzo, too.
Here’s a close-up look at the location for the Monsters, Inc. roller coaster!
Pueblo Esperanza
Over in Animal Kingdom, DinoLand, U.S.A. started its phased closures on January 13th, 2025, to start breaking ground for a new land themed to the Tropical Americas, called Pueblo Esperanza. In the first wave of closures, we lost TriceraTop Spin, Fossil Fun Games, and Chester and Hester’s Dinosaur Treasures.
The second wave took out The Boneyard playground on September 2nd, 2025. And the final wave hasn’t happened JUST yet, but the last day folks will be able to experience DINOSAUR and the other snack/food locations in this area will be on February 1st, 2026.
If Disney doesn’t add this to its new Encanto ride, we will riot.
We’re not here to sugar coat things. (Never have been, never will.) Disney World will NOT be in its prime in 2026. And while that doesn’t mean a visit here next year won’t still be fun, you’ve gotta set those expectations NOW and realize you’ll only be getting a slice of these parks instead of the WHOLE park pie for a while.
(Except for EPCOT. EPCOT’s looking sharp lately. But it already had its WALLcot season.)
2027 and beyond is when we’re really gonna start to see the fruits of these construction labors. So there is a chance that the parks might see FEWER crowds in 2026, just because people are holding off on their big Disney trips until a vacation splurge looks more worthwhile.
If you wanna keep closer track of what the next 12 months in Disney World are gonna look like, we’ve got a Disney World calendar that we update with EVERY new announcement and date drop that you can pick up FOR FREE – RIGHT NOW at the link below!
Attendance Is Still Down TODAY
In Disney’s most recent earnings call, it seemed like lots of numbers were going up…But don’t automatically assume that an increase in revenue equates to an increase in park attendance. There are OTHER factors at play that show attendance levels may not be up-to-snuff like they once were, which could CONTINUE being a pattern in 2026.
International Attendance
Even though Disney announced during their most recent earnings call that bookings for Disney World for the third quarter of the year were up 4%, Disney has also shared that international attendance at the domestic parks hasn’t gotten back to pre-COVID levels.
While the US Travel Association predicted that foreign travel spending would rise to $200.8 billion this year, outside factors caused it to drop down to $169 billion. So international travel is still down as a WHOLE, which would definitely impact Disney World’s numbers, too.
One of the major factors that may affect Walt Disney World travel in the months to come has to do with a drop in Canadian tourism. The number of Canadians visiting the United States have decreased for 7 consecutive months. For example, July 2025 saw the number of Canadian residents returning from the United States was down to 2.6 million, marking a 32.4% decrease compared with July 2024. Overall, trips to the United States accounted for 65% of Canadian trips abroad, a decrease of over 24% compared to previous years.
In September, Visit Lauderdale said that Canadian visitors were down 10% to 16% since April, with 13.5% fewer Canadians flying in. Officials estimate that could mean up to a $90 million loss in economic activity.

Orlando International Airport
But will international travel continue to be a downward trend as we go into 2026 too?
Well… that’s kind of hard to tell. Some predictions say international travel will INCREASE in 2026 – possibly even beyond pre-pandemic numbers – but even IF international tourism spikes up again, that doesn’t necessarily mean these overseas guests will be piling into Disney World.
Domestic Attendance
Disney did say that domestic attendance has been helping to make up for the dip in international travel, and yet – despite Disney’s reports of domestic attendance increasing overall – we’ve been seeing SEVERAL promotions going on for hotels, vacation packages, and even Annual Passes that go BEYOND the discounts we’ve seen in years’ past (and are available for not just 2025 guest, but potential 2026 guests, as well).
We’re not saying its RARE for Disney to release discounts. Discounts pop up on the Disney World website ALL the time. But the discounts we’ve been seeing on the website lately seem more significant.
Disney World is offering gift cards of up to $100 when you purchase a new annual pass (sorry – not for renewals, just new passes only) through September 30th. And before THESE AP promotions were ever a thing, Disney also lowered the required down payments for Florida Local APs earlier on in the year for a limited time.
We’re ALSO seeing unique discounts at the moment for things like FREE Dining Plan Deals AND special offers specifically for Georgia residents. And then – of course – there’s the free water park deal, that gets all guests staying at a Disney-owned hotel FREE Disney water park tickets on their hotel check-in day (which is a promotion that WILL be returning in summer of 2026, as well).
For a vacation destination that’s pretty infamous for regular price increases, these kinds of discounts don’t happen for no reason. Generally, Disney doesn’t need any sort of bribe to get guests to buy up their APs, or park tickets, or hotel rooms, guests just DO it. So when unique ticket deals like these are released, this GENERALLY means numbers are lower than Disney expected them to be, and/or they wanna make sure numbers are STABLE even during a time of decreased interest.
Disney vs. Disney
So wait… what about the major Disney fans out there? Will THEY still be flocking to Disney World in 2026? It seems that one of Disney World’s biggest competitors that’ll potentially drive park traffic down next year could actually be Disney.
Disney Cruise Line
We’ve already had the Disney Treasure up and sailing since December 2024, but the NEW Disney Destiny will set sail starting on November 20th, 2025 – which’ll bring NEW experiences to the DCL like Pride Lands: Feast of The Lion King, Cask and Cannon — a Pirates of the Caribbean-themed bar, and the exclusive Hercules Musical.
But there’s also another new ship being added to the DCL line up shortly AFTER the Disney Destiny plans to set sail! The Disney Adventure – which’ll be Disney’s first-ever ship to not only feature a roller coaster, but also to sail out of Singapore – was SUPPOSED to take its maiden voyage on December 15th, 2025.
However, Disney has since pushed back the Adventure’s first sail date until March 10th, 2026, due to some “unexpected delays in the shipbuilding process.” Once things DO finally kick off here, the Disney Adventure will be yet ANOTHER brand new ship in the DCL family that could lead Disney fans to book a vacation that’s not a Disney World trip.
Disneyland
The crowds came in DROVES for the kickoff of Disneyland’s 70th Anniversary Celebration starting on May 16th, 2025. And it’s STILL GOING ON RIGHT NOW (but ONLY until summer of 2026. So you’ll have to plan a visit SOON if you wanna see all those limited-time birthday offerings before they’re GONE).
So what can you EXPECT to see during all the anniversary hullabaloo?
- The Paint the Night electrical parade RETURNED after being MIA for SEVERAL years.
- The Wondrous Journeys fireworks show ALSO returned (but if you’re going to the parks SUPER soon, just note that this nighttime spectacular has been temporarily put on pause to make way for seasonal Halloween and Holidays entertainment offerings, but will return at a later date).
- A new “World of Color” show in DCA has made its debut as part of the Anniversary – called World of Color Happiness.
International Parks
Some of Disney’s international parks have a WHOLE lot more going on next year than what Disney World’s gonna be doing in 2026. The BIGGEST change that’ll be happening is over in Disneyland Paris, where Walt Disney Studios Park in Paris will officially transform into Disney Adventure World in 2026.
This massive project includes:
- A Lion King flume ride (which looks similar to Tiana’s Bayou Adventure)
- An Up-themed swinging attraction
- A Rapunzel spinner ride
- A brand-new Frozen land with a major E-ticket attraction
And other international parks have added BRAND NEW LANDS to their properties within the past few years. This includes expansions like:
- Fantasy Springs in Tokyo DisneySea (which opened on June 6th, 2024, and added three new sections to the park – including areas inspired by Tangled, Frozen, and Peter Pan)
- The World of Frozen opened in Hong Kong Disney on November 20th, 2023.
- And Shanghai Disneyland opened a whole new Zootopia-themed area on December 20th, 2023.
Why Disney World Might Not Be Empty
Before we start jumping to the conclusion that Disney World in 2026 is gonna be nothing but construction walls and tumble weeds across deserted pathways, let’s look at why next year at Disney World could still be a WHOLE lot more people-y than you might’ve expected it to be.
There Will STILL Be New Attractions!
The BIG new lands around Disney World aren’t gonna be open and available until 2027 and beyond. But there are STILL quite a few NEW attractions.
In 2026, expect to see…
- The reimagined Big Thunder Mountain Railroad FINALLY reopening in Magic Kingdom with NEW effects, NEW train cars, a NEW track, and a NEW storyline.
- Buzz Lightyear Space Ranger Spin will ALSO reopen in Magic Kingdom, sometime in 2026 to give future Galactic Heroes the chance to blast their way through new scenes and targets while using new blaster technology (and learning the ropes along the way, all thanks to a brand new robot character named Buddy)!
- Over in Hollywood Studios, Rock n Roller Coaster: Starring Aerosmith will be closing at the beginning of 2026 to start paving the way for a very Muppet-y takeover. This Muppets revamp should be ready later in 2026.
- Another thing that’ll be happening in Hollywood Studios next year? In honor of the release of The Mandalorian and Grogu movie on May 22nd, 2026, Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run will offer NEW experiences for those who ride it, beginning on that same date. Your group will also get the opportunity to choose WHERE you travel to during your time inside this “hunk of junk.”
Now… notice that the ONLY date we know about FOR SURE when it comes to these new and revamped 2026 experiences SO far is for the Smugglers Run update. Everything else is pretty up in the air right now (meaning these experiences could open up in early 2026… or LATE 2026).
And let’s not forget that Disney World has opened (or is about to open) experiences in 2025 that maybe folks haven’t had the chance to see just yet (but they’re planning to see them for the first time during their upcoming 2026 vacation)
Zootopia: Better Zoogether will be opening on November 7th, 2025 inside Animal Kingdom’s Tree Of Life. This all-new 4D show is replacing the old It’s Tough to Be A Bug attraction in a story that takes place on Zoogether Day – right alongside new and familiar Zootopia characters who’ll join ya on your journey.
Over in Magic Kingdom, you can NOW see Disney Starlight: Dream the Night Away (which opened July 20th, 2025). This nighttime parade happens twice nightly (once before and once after the Happily Ever After castle show), so you’ve got double the chances to see it run through Main Street USA, Liberty Square, or Frontierland.
Hollywood Studios kept the live entertainment going strong this year when they opened up TWO new live stage shows this May. Disney Villains: Unfairly Ever After stars Captain Hook, Cruella De Vil, and Maleficent in a show where they FINALLY get to tell THEIR side of the story through song and dance – and the AUDIENCE gets to decide who was REALLY treated the “UNFAIREST” of them all.
And then – after years of wondering what was gonna happen to the Little Mermaid theater AFTER the COVID closures shut it down indefinitely, Hollywood Studios FINALLY opened The Little Mermaid — A Musical Adventure, which is VERY similar to the stage show that was here before, just with a few additional NEW scenes, songs, and effects.
On July 22nd, 2025, EPCOT reopened Test Track after its year-long closure to give us a FRESH high-speed ride that captures classic EPCOT with more of a futuristic twist.
So again, Disney World’s not doing NOTHING right now. Despite all the construction walls, there’s still new stuff to see and do here that’ll stretch on throughout 2026.
The Peak Seasons Will ALWAYS Be Peak Seasons
Let’s say Disney World attendance does drop in 2026, due to construction, price hikes, travel trend changes, or what have you. Regardless of numbers potentially dipping, Disney’s peak season times are still gonna be packed out. Seasons like spring break, Fourth of July, Thanksgiving week, and Christmas through New Year’s Day are always SWARMING with guests, year after year.
So could Disney be empty at SOME points of the year when travel isn’t as prominent? Sure. But don’t be planning a 2026 Magic Kingdom trip for, say, the day after Christmas and expect the parks to be dead thanks to all that construction going on over in Frontierland. Because the crowds are STILL gonna come, and you’re STILL gonna want to prepare for them accordingly.
Traveling While The “Waters Are Still”
Sure, “Wall” Disney World season might be frustrating for many. But for others? This could be the PRIME opportunity to go. Disney’s entering into a season that we can only describe as “the calm before the storm.” We’ve seen the types of heavy crowds that’ve popped up after new lands were added to the parks. And we’ve also seen the new rules Disney had to put in place to manage crowd levels as much as they possibly could. (Looking at YOU, Galaxy’s Edge…)
So the fact that we have NO new lands coming to Disney World in 2026 means that this could be one of the EASIEST years to actually PLAN a Disney World vacation. Currently, there are no virtual queues to stress over. There aren’t any giant crowds rushing into certain areas and crowding them out to the brink of capacity. There aren’t any striking new ways that you need to plan out your mornings and evenings inside the parks.
What do YOU think? Is 2026 gonna be the year YOU go to Disney World… or are you holding out for a bit longer? Let us know in the comments!

Trump’s new tariffs are not praiseworthy. They are harmful, and carry the potential to do great harm.
Seriously…
This is the reason WDW would have lower attendance this year? We all know better.
We like Canada but it’s cold. We love WDW because it’s not Canada.
After going to WDW multiple times every year since 1990, I have not been to the parks since 2022 do to ringing costs of entry, food, and excessive closure of major attractions. We have decided to spend our vacation dollars elsewhere. Bob Iger has shown that he is not guest focused like Michel Eisner. Disney is looking my business. Now, as we are DVC members since 2021, we spend our vacation time at the resort hotels nd not the parks, electing to visit one park for one day during our stays instead of multiple parks on multiple days. Disney has lost our vacation business as we search out other alternatives. It is just to expensive to go.
Is it possible to purchase hard copies of the Dusney dining 101 brochures? It is almost impossible, and extremely expensive, to print almost of these brochures.
I will tell you why the parks ma be empty. I did a cast member preview day at Epic Universe at Universal Orlando and may I just say…WOW!!!
This park blows Disney out of the water!!!! Sure they’ll come to Disney, but trust me, when this new park opens in May, there will be no contest.
Not to mention, Disney tearing apart Magic kingdom, getting rid of the aesthetics of water and a green Island for Brown cars land that could be put somewhere else. Constantly Subtracting And only adding occasionally does not make or repeat visitors
The main reason for WDW parks being far less crowded this summer is that everybody is excited to see Universal’s Epic. Not because of politics. When it comes to price, Universal’s newest luxury hotels are much less expensive.
We canceled our Disney vacation and are going to Italy instead – and are saving $1000. It’s no secret attendance is down no matter what they say about demand – Disney only drops discounts when they need to. And they’ve been dropping a LOT of them.
Between Trump’s idiocy and the exorbitant costs Disney is charging… it’s not any shocker that demand is lower and will continue to be so for the foreseeable future.
Hi Vicky! All of our DFB Guides come in an electronic format to allow for ease of navigation and portability (there’s a whole lot of info in there!). We don’t currently have a physical copy available.

With great risk comes great reward for the common man. Boohoo the hedge fund managers will suffer!
Love our great President! He don’t play with globalists!
EPCOT will probably be empty because of the tariffs levied on the countries. If the foods come in at all, the cost will be prohibitive. We love all the different foods and drinks. Who will be able to afford them when they cost twice as much. My only consolation is that I didn’t vote for him the first, second or third time.
The economy is catering. That will drop attendance. Trump ruins everything he touches. Absolute moron.
It looks like it’ll be another year before we get to go. It’s been seven years since I’ve been and I’m truly biting at the bit. Just when I thought things were looking good, the tariffs came up. The deals that Disney is putting out is still costly. As a Canadian it’s just not worth paying the extra 40 some odd cents on every dollar. Maybe next year.
Carol, If there are any authentic foods or drinks that are actually shipped in from the countries in Epcot, please list here!
If you’re asking me, I certainly can’t list them. I know the countries have beers, wine and other alcohols from other countries. And foods from other countries. And they sell things made in other countries. I was in the Canada pavilion years ago and found these amazing cookies from Canada.
If you were being sarcastic, I don’t appreciate that. We go to EPCOT to get foods and drinks from other countries.
Carol. Was not trying to be sarcastic. I realize some of the package foods do come from Canada, but don’t believe much of anything that is in the restaurants or kiosks are sourced directly from the countries represented. If there are some, I’d like to know so I can try them!Perhaps the wines and beers, not really a drinker so I didn’t think about that.
Lisa, after I responded before, I thought about my response. I was thinking about the great cheeses from France. I’m guessing the other countries bring stuff in. Norway, Germany, etc. Maybe you can write EPCOT. They may have information for you.
While I agree to what you said I find it hard to believe only Disney World would be effected. Everyone seems to believe the Universal theme parks are always immune from everything that you believe would hurt Disney. I would love someone to explain this weird phenomenon.
Disney had become way to expensive long before Trump and his Tariffs. The parks are dirtier, less maintence on the rides, less perks to those that stay at the parks. The higher ticket prices have nothing to do with politics. It is just Disney greed that is driving people away.
I can see how Universal’s opening of new lands, and new construction walls that lessen the experience contribute to a downturn at WDW. Were strongly considering taking a year off for the first time in 35 year due to the construction.
That said, to discount the decrease in Canadian travel would be foolish.
Knowing how TWDC assembles detailed data across their operations I would tend to give that more credence that the governor’s chatting with a group at Legoland.
Thank you for the honest reporting!
I know that the restaurants in Italy actually import the water used to make their pizza crusts and pasta (which is good, because FL water is disgusting!).
What is that saying, cutting off your nose to spite your face??? Something like that!! That’s what people are doing. They are only hurting themselves (Disney will survive!!) because they have DTS. I’m looking forward to my trip in 2026 with less crowds…Thanks Canada!!!
One hundred percent one of the reasons attendance is down is because Canadians are cancelling trips to the US. We don’t feel safe there and also taking a stand against tariffs and threats to our country. Everyone I know that had trips booked have canceled and are vacationing in Canada or Europe. Hopefully someday we can be back.
More room for the rest of us!
Pent up demand might make it go the other direction. It could be like COVID.
Animal Kingdom, under construction, Magic Kingdom, under construction, Hollywood Studios, Under Construction! Why pay full price ticket to visit half a park? 2026 will be a construction year, set your sights on 2027 when hopefully the work is done
Attendance is down not just because the tariff war with Canada (which was long overdue )but no one had the balls to address it) but primarily because of the never ending greed over the Disney Corporation. They are constantly charging more for less, even having the stupidity to raise prices while a quarter of the magic kingdom , a third of animal kingdom and now practically half of Hollywood Studios are under construction. They literally don’t give a crap about their customers. Pile on top of that the liberal view if the company when most are backing away from that idiocy and you end up losing money. I haven visiting Disney multiple times over the past 10 years and each time it was a worse than the previous visit. Have been to both Disney snd Universal the past two years and while Universal doesn’t attempt to blow pixie dust up your backside ghey at least provide an entertaining environment for significantly less money and at least build new parks to attract customers instead of ripping out existing ones. Walt stated that the reason he came to Florida was because it offered what California couldn’t , space . Space that has only been used to create more hotels and nothing else.
I wouldn’t visit the United States if I were a Canadian either. The current administration is separating us from the world and is harming key international relations. I have highly successful friends who have dual citizenship and after 20 years left the United States and returned to Europe because of what is occurring. A freshman in college taking an economics class understands economics better than our dictator. Tariffs are an act of war, not a course for economic success. It’s basic economics. The cost of producing increases. Companies don’t eat those costs, they pass them on to the consumer. Prices go up, consumers purchase less resulting in decreased sales for companies. What happens with decreased sales? Layoffs which then mean fewer jobs and few dollars in the community. Companies retract rather than grow. Open trade builds strong economies, not tariffs. Companies creating the best products at prices consumers want deserve to win, not those that the game is being altered so that they can win. Inflation is on a bad path despite all economic indicators being extremely strong as of New Year’s.
All those on here talking about Epic, well go there and stay as you won’t be missed. Universal will never compare to the quality of service provided by Disney cast members.
Why do we have to bring mean-spirited politics into this platform? As a travel advisor I can say that the prices are driving my clients away, not politics. Constuction and high prices are the main problem. I’m also frustrated by the declining quality of the food. They are using more and more cheap ingredients and it’s really difficult to find a decent meal at Disney World anymore.
Disney has become insanely expensive, it’s always under construction and destroying what made it magical. We went for years and recently said enough.
Btw. Before you go blaming Trump, you may want to look at the insanely high tarrifs Canada has on the US.
Too bad this turned polical, I voted for Trump and would again . Iger is the problem here, prices and quality in the toilet.
There are a lot of reasons but the economy is a big one. Where I live in Florida we used to have many Canadian snow birds, in the last year they have sold up and decided not to return due to the political atmosphere. It’s been an extremely hot summer which has had an impact for some folks who usually came down. Some folks I know have cancelled trips to Florida to either Universal or Disney because of some of the new “laws” such as open carry, and the general treatment of LGBTQ folks as they have family members who don’t feel safe. Personally I find it’s the economics keeping me home. I had a pass for the first fifteen out of twenty years that I lived here. After Covid many of the friends I would meet there weren’t coming so I held off Universal doesn’t hold great interest for me as I cannot go on many of it’s rides. The economic side is not due to Disney’s prices (although they are a bit high) but the present continual rising prices of food, gas, insurance, etc. and the constant drama from Washington and DeSantis cuts make planning for anything but necessities unlikely.
Stop making Disney political. Trump does not run Disney, nor does he make decision regarding the company. Be truthful about ALL the factors contributing to Disney’s downslide. For the parks, maybe buy American, look for other vendors.Stop blaming with you biases to fit your agenda. Conservatives make money and they too can decide if they want to spend their money at Disney, or NOT.. I believe Walt said “to everyone who comes to this happy place, Welcome!
Disney keeps raising prices- this has been going on for before the tariffs.
Todd, I totally agree.
We just returned from a vacation to the UK and Northern Europe. My family discussed the difference in the comments made about the USA in 2017 vs now. In 2017, many Europeans wanted to know how we could elect someone like Trump, etc. In 2025, no one mentioned Trump. They are more worried about their own problems, namely inflation, especially groceries; uncontrolled immigration and the problems that is bringing; the size of their national debt and the interest portion of their federal budgets needed to support that debt, leaving no money for anything else; the unrest in France; some concern over Putin; and an increase in street crime. A taxi driver said of the UK, their problems are the same as the USA, but their government hasn’t a clue what to do about it. At least America is trying to address it. So what does this have to do with this thread? They said money is very tight and they would like to visit the USA, but they can’t afford it currently, maybe in a year or two. People in every European country we visited talked about their inflation problem. I am sharing this feedback as it may be impacting WDW attendance this year.
