Disney’s Pop Century Resort is one of those places that feels like stepping into a time machine, except with Mickey-shaped waffles waiting at the end.

This resort is known for its larger-than-life icons (we see you, giant Mr. Potato Head!) and playful nods to pop culture from the 1950s through the 1990s. This value resort has become a fan favorite for families and Disney adults alike. Bright, bold, and brimming with nostalgia, Pop Century is a popular value resort, but now things are changing that you might not be ready for.

A few months ago, we reported that Pop Century’s lobby would be getting a huge renovation, and well, that renovation is underway. We noticed that pretty much everything in the lobby is under construction. So if you’re visiting the hotel soon, you might notice something new.

This area is going to look more like the new wall mural you can already see as part of the “retro-inspired refresh” Disney is giving the hotel lobby. The lobby is getting a much-needed remodel, and Disney is promising a brighter, more modern welcome for guests. The refurb will feature updated seating, refreshed colors, and a sleeker check-in experience.

But we’ve got some bad news. The shadow boxes with all the vintage items are now gone. We confirmed with a Cast Member that these have been removed indefinitely. These were honestly so fun to look at, and I grew up looking at each one every time my family stayed here — as you probably did too! The resort’s beloved shadow boxes were quirky displays that gave each section its own personality.

The hotel’s guest rooms will begin remodeling in late March 2025. The refurbishments will continue through mid-February 2026. Of course, even if you stay at one of the resorts undergoing guest room refurbishments, there is no guarantee that you will be put in a new room.
