Things are really shaking up at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. This summer, Muppets Courtyard closed to make way for construction that will eventually become a brand new Monsters, Inc. land.
Then there’s the construction at Animation Courtyard, which just closed recently. Well, a LOT has been going on behind those construction walls, but we’ve only been able to barely get a look at what’s been happening behind those walls as the area transforms into The Walt Disney Studios. Now, though, we’ve got some new overhead shots of the area to get a closer look at the construction!
Thanks to @bioreconstruct, we have new photos of what’s happening behind the construction walls of what used to be Animation Courtyard. Right now, it looks like there is a LOT of demolition happening. A lot of construction equipment is on site, and there is a ton of debris filling up dumpsters.
This photo shows the foundation of the gateway arch that was recently removed.
Here’s another angle of that area. It doesn’t look like anything new has been added to the area yet, so the project seems to still be in its demolition phase.
From this angle, you can see the former Star Wars Launch Bay. We noticed recently that the sign there had been taken down.
When it’s completed, the area will be converted into The Walt Disney Studios, which is almost a throwback to what this area was when Hollywood Studios opened in 1989 as Disney-MGM Studios (yep, I remember it, although at that time, it was an actually working TV and movie studio). It will include The Magic of Disney Animation, an experience where you can interact with Disney animation in a new way, character meet-and-greets, a new Alice in Wonderland-themed playground, a new Disney Jr. show, and more.
We’ll be keeping an eye on construction progress and will keep you updated, so stay tuned to DFB for more.

It is no longer a studios. Not even close. Where is the behind the scenes and audience wow factor. It is just another amusement park, not a studios any more.
