American Airlines is changing one of its longtime luggage rules, and it’s going to immediately affect how you fly!
I’ve been flying for over 30 years, and there have been many times when I’ve held my breath, hoping that my carry-on bag fits into the metal sizer at the gate and won’t need to be checked last minute. Can you relate? If so, fret not, as those days will soon be over for both of us… at least on American Airlines. Like fellow carrier United did several years ago, American is eliminating the sizers and moving to a new system.
Moving forward, gate agents will use their judgment to make the final determination as to whether a bag is eligible to be carried on or too big and needs to be checked. Furthermore, if they’re not sure, the gate agent will err on the side of the customer.
Sizers will still be available in check-in lobbies before security, so flyers can get a pretty good idea if their bag will be approved or rejected before making their way through TSA and to their gate.
If this rule change has you reconsidering your luggage options, and perhaps planning to pick up some new bags, these are some of our FAVORITE airline-approved luggage pieces.

When are the airlines going to charge for the large carry-on bags. Unfortunately, I am unable to lift a carry-on luggage above my head and have to pay $$$ for the baggage compartment. This is unfair to have to pay for the same size luggage. Many seniors will agree with me, and they do not get a senior-discount either.
