Millennials will forever remember the days of layering tank-tops, zebra-striped Homecoming dresses, and platform Steve Maddens. We wore our Aeropostale, shell necklaces, and proudly rocked our flip phones.
There were so many quintessential Millennial trends that were a huge part of our lives growing up. Nowadays, we’ve traded our T-9 keyboards on our flip phones for iMessage on our iPhones, stopped wearing 2+ tank-tops at once, and swapped out chunky necklaces for more dainty alternatives. But there are some Millennial Disney trends that we will never let die, but apparently, they’re no longer cool by Gen Z’s standards. Whatever, you’ll still see us rocking these 5 fads.
Throwing Up the Peace Sign in Photos
Is there any other way to pose for photos? We Millennials don’t think so. Gen Z might be making fun of us and saying we’re uncool for doing it, but we’re going to keep doing it anyway.
So if you see any of us throwing up the peace sign as we’re taking pictures around the parks, don’t come for us. Besides, don’t we all deserve a little more peace in our lives anyway?
Collecting Spirit Jerseys
Spirit Jerseys have become a Millennial staple for every Disney park. Regardless of what season, holiday, or celebration it is, there’s a Spirit Jersey for it.
Our closets are full of these baggy, long-sleeved tees, and they’re not just for the parks. You’ll likely catch us lounging in them around the house or wearing them on a Target run. Gen Z might not care for them the way we Millennials do, but Disney knows we’re going to keep buying them.
Wearing LOUD Pairs of Ears (Because We Don’t Believe in Subtle)
The new styles and trends are far more subtle and low-key. Neutrals are in, and you’ll likely spot a Gen Z person wearing a pair of simple, black Mickey ears that go with every outfit.
But that’s definitely not who we Millennials are. Our kids, nieces, and nephews are probably making fun of us, but we’re wearing the LOUD Donald Duck headband anyway.
If we can’t be silly in Disney World, then where can we be? Disney parks are where we go to be kids again (perhaps we all need therapy, but that’s okay). So, yes, you will see us in these blinged out Donald Duck ears…
…or the fuzzy Lotso ears.
And you know these Alien ears are calling to every Millennial’s inner child. Toy Story was a staple of our childhood, and the Aliens were the best comic relief this century has seen.
So no, we will not stop wearing our adorably silly ears to Disney World.
Wear Not-So-Subtle Disney Shirts (Seriously, We’re Not Good at Subtle)
The not-so-stubtle style Millennials have does not end with our headband ears. We are the ones wearing glaringly obvious Disney shirts that scream, “I’m a Disney Adult!” For example, this Winnie the Pooh and Piglet tee is a prime example of what I would wear to the parks.
A shirt that says “I need Space.” (Space Mountain) just isn’t going to cut it for Millennials. We need a shirt that says, “I NEED SPACE MOUNTAIN,” in all caps, too.
Focus On the FOOD (Because Food IS Theme Park)
When Millennials go to the Disney parks, we go for the food. Sure, the rides are great and all, but that new EPCOT festival menu that just dropped is our actual to-do list for Disney World.
Take a look at our Instagram and you’ll see lots and lots of Disney food pictures and not much of anything else. The rides rarely change, but the food is different every trip. Catch Millennials trying every single new snack and leaving the rides for Gen Z to enjoy.
Gen Z might find these trends “cringe,” but we’re Millennials, and we’re not gonna stop. Disney is a place for everyone to enjoy and express themselves! So if you’re a Millennial, you do you.

On my most recent trip, I saw a fellow Millennial parent. He was a Dad wearing a Lotso shirt and matching furry ears. I chuckled and said to myself “You do you, Dad. Where else can a grown man wear accessories of his favorite character and not stick out like a sore thumb?”
