Okay, so Disney is always working on bring new movies to theaters, because, well, that’s what Disney does!
That’s also how the movie business rolls, and Disney is always announcing new projects, even with certain actors already attached, although not every project actually makes its way to the red carpet. Making movies is HARD, y’all. But we wanted to look at every movie Disney has teased recently, just to give you an idea of what may be in the works.
A Very Jonas Christmas Movie
Yep, the Jonas Brothers are getting a new movie. A Very Jonas Christmas Movie will follow Nick, Kevin, and Joe as they try to get from London to New York in time to spend the holiday with their families. Of course, they have to do so while encountering “a series of escalating obstacles.” Sounds like fun!
The movie will feature a LOT of cameos, and you can see it SOON because it will premiere on Disney+ on November 14th.
Simpsons 2
Believe it or not, Disney has replaced an upcoming Marvel project with a Simpsons movie (okay, we don’t know it replaced the Marvel movie, but it did take over an untitled Marvel movie’s release date). Disney teased a new Simpsons movie release with a poster that stated, “Homer’s coming back for seconds.”
The first Simpsons movie was made way back in 2007, and it MADE BANK at the box office, earning $536 million at the global box office with just a $75 million budget. The new film will premiere a decade later, in 2027.
Camp Rock 3
We’re not done with the Jonas Brothers just yet because they’ll also be appearing in Camp Rock 3. Yes, we’re finally getting a third installment of the Camp Rock movies, and yes, it’s officially in development. Demi Lovato is even returning as the executive producer. SWEET.
The new movie will pick up where “Connect 3 ” left off, when the band loses their opening act for a major reunion tour, returning to their beloved Camp Rock to ride over the next big thing. As campers vie for the chance to open for their favorite band, tensions rise and friendships are tested, leading to unexpected alliances, revelations, and romances.”
Hexed
In August, Disney announced a brand new animated film called Hexed, which is set to release in fall 2026. From what we can tell, this movie is in development now, but Disney hasn’t released a lot of details about it.
Disney described the film: “Hexed is an all-new original film that follows a teenage oddball and his mom, who discover his weirdness is actually hidden magic, transporting them to a world where magic can run free.”
Tangled Live-Action Film
It’s on, then it’s off. Such goes with the status of the live-action Tangled movie. Well, now, the movie is BACK in development at Disney and Scarlett Johansson is “circling the role of Mother Gothel.”
Michael Gracey, the director of The Greatest Showman, is still attached as director of the project. He is reportedly working from a script by Jennifer Kaytin Robinson.
Impossible Creatures
Disney has acquired the rights to the “Impossible Creatures” YA fantasy book series, with author Katherine Rundell adapting the first two books into screenplays. The book series follows a boy, Christopher, as he learns about a place where magical creatures have thrived after thousands of years. He teams up with some friends to go on an adventure in that place to find out why magic is fading and these creatures are dying.
Sounds right up Disney’s alley, right? Now, this film hasn’t started filming yet, and nothing is ever set in stone until it gets a release date, so we’ll be keeping an eye out for more details.
New Alien Film
Okay, there’s NO doubt there’s going to be a new Alien movie, right? The last film, Alien: Romulus, did pretty well with the box office and critics, and the new TV series, Alien: Earth, has a lot of folks talking. Well, according to People, some of these people talking include Sigourney Weaver and Disney about bringing her back as Ripley for a new movie. Yes, PLEASE!
Series producer/writer Walter Hill has even written a script. Weaver said, “So I don’t know if it’s going to happen, but I have had a meeting with Fox, Disney, or whoever it is now. I have never felt the need [to reprise the role.] I was always like, ‘Let her rest, let her recover.’ But what Walter has written seems, first of all, so true to me. It’s very much about the society that would incarcerate someone who has tried to help mankind, but she’s a problem to them, so she’s sort of tucked away.”
Prince Charming movie
A year ago, Deadline reported that Chris Hemsworth was in talks to star in a new Prince Charming Movie, with Paul King on board to direct. Simon Farnaby and Jon Croker are reportedly co-writing the film with King, and it’s reportedly in development.
Here’s the thing, though. We haven’t heard anything about this movie since then. Insiders have said that the movie might not specifically be linked to Cinderella, though. So that’s intriguing, huh?
The Hunt for Ben Solo
So Star Wars fans have been chomping at the bit after Variety reported that a movie called The Hunt for Ben Solo was canceled in 2021. The movie was to follow The Rise of Skywalker, indicating that Kylo Ren (aka Ben Solo) may have actually survived the events of The Rise of Skywalker. Let’s just say that Star Wars fans are pretty demanding and have gone to great lengths, including paying for a plane to fly a banner reading “Save the Hunt for Ben Solo” over Walt Disney Studios in Burbank. No, REALLY.
Well, Collider reported that Star Wars fans also paid for a billboard in New York reading “For Adam. No one’s ever really gone. Hope lives. Ben is alive! #THBS.” You paying attention, Disney? Who knows what might become of it? But a lot of people are talking about this film right now.
We’ll have to keep an eye on this list to see if Disney gives us any updates on these projects. In the meantime, stay tuned to DFB for more.
