When it comes to dining at Disney World, you’ve got a TON of options. Want something quick and easy? You’ve got it. Something middle-of-the-road and comforting? Yep, that too. And if you’re looking for something upscale and luxurious, you can find that as well.
We recently stopped by Pecos Bill Tall Tale Inn and Cafe at Magic Kingdom for lunch, and now we’re bringing you our FULL review. Is it worth a stop on your next trip to the Most Magical Place on Earth? Find out here!
We stopped by Pecos Bill Tall Tale Inn and Cafe in Magic Kingdom’s Frontierland for lunch recently and picked up the Plant-Based Rice Bowl, which is available for $12.99. This is made with Impossible® Meatballs in red chili-tomato sauce, pinto beans, cilantro-lime rice, roasted corn and black bean salsa, and lime “crema”. This is like the other rice bowls available here, only with plant-based protein and ingredients!
We were shocked by how much we liked this, especially because our reporter, who tried it, doesn’t even eat a plant-based diet regularly. The chili-tomato sauce was like a cross between a salsa and a hot sauce, and there was a bit of a kick to it, so keep that in mind if you’re averse to spice! The cilantro-lime rice was flavorful and not too mushy, which can sometimes happen with mass-produced rice. We really loved the flavor of the roasted corn and black bean salsa — it added a nice smoky, charred flavor to the mix. The pinto beans were cooked well and had a tomato-forward flavor that added to the dish as well.
The Impossible® Meatballs were excellent — if we didn’t know any better, we’d have thought they were meat! They had a firm texture that was still soft, and when paired with the chili-tomato sauce, we really enjoyed them. The lime “crema” added a nice citrusy aspect to the dish, along with a bit of creamy coolness to help with the acidity and overall spice. Even if you’re not a plant-based eater, we think it’d be hard to go wrong with this one!
And, if you are a plant-based eater, you need to add this to your list of dishes to try at Magic Kingdom!
In the meantime, we’ll be on the lookout for more restaurant updates from Disney World and beyond. Make sure you stay tuned to the Disney Food Blog for the latest Disney news and more!

Pecos Bill and Columbia Harbour House are our go to quick service spots in Mk. We love them both.
We stopped at Pecos for lunch on a Disney World trip a couple of years ago and it was the worst food ever. Everything we were served was cold and all the sauces, etc. were in packets that you had to keep opening. We basically left without eating and swore never to go back there. Maybe, just maybe, we will try it again after your glowing review.
Don’t know why you keep pushing plant-based meals. Health experts are not even sure if they are healthy for you.
Most people do not eat plant-based meals.
In addition, you continue to push snacks, deserts and alcohol which are not exactly healthy for you.
Appreciate your reviews of plant-based dishes that might also appeal to omnivores. Most of us don’t eat anywhere near the recommended number of servings of veggies so this sounds like good option to get a few in while having a satisfying meal even for those who love burgers and the like.
Gino, I’m sorry to inform you that my entire family, including tons of friends and their families, do not eat meat or dairy for humane reasons. DFB, Thank you so much for posting information about this option ad we will all try it and stay much more healthy.
Teri, Yes the food is a lot better. What I have found is the menus change quite frequently, at all Disney food places, as do the taste and flavors. The DFB does a great job of covering those changes too.
Thank you, Gino! Agreed!
It’s always been the axiom that ‘the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few.’ I’m glad that wdw offers many food options but it does seem lately that ‘the few’ are getting served everything in style while ‘the many’ are being ignored or kicked to the curb. I would also agree that much at wdw is not the healthiest but eating in moderation is always wisest. Ultimately, a wdw vacation is not the place to preach or push others to a certain diet and, much like the holidays, it’s fun to treat ourselves just a little. It does seem that, in a lot of ways, wdw is trying to please as many as possible and I love that their website shows all the menus at each place so everyone can plan a meal or snack according to their own choosing.
