There are so many closures hitting Disney World, it’s left us wondering, “What’s even open?”

Over in Magic Kingdom, several classic buildings were recently demolished, Buzz Lightyear is getting a major makeover, and a huge expansion is in the works. Now, another big change (to us) has hit the park, and we didn’t even know it was coming!
Everyone has that one weird little Disney thing that they’re obsessed with, even if it makes no sense to anyone else. One of our weird little things? Our love for the Cool Ship in Tomorrowland! Cool Ship was a misting spaceship that we ran straight to when the heat became unbearable. It was also attached to a small quick-service counter with water, bottled drinks, popcorn, ice cream, and the occasional specialty treat.

Well, Disney recently broke the news that a brand-new snack stand is headed to Tomorrowland named AstroFizz, and while they haven’t officially confirmed it, we’re pretty sure this is the end of Cool Ship as we know it. The snack stand has been closed for several months, and we even spotted walls around the stand in May 2025.

In early September, the entire structure was gone! Our beloved red ship had flown off to space.

Then by the end of September, a new structure appeared, and we got some great views of it from the PeopleMover. We were hoping that our red ship would return, but it’s not looking good! After Disney announced the new AstroFizz snack stand, we turned to the MyDisneyExperience App and noticed the new stand’s location on the map is the same as Cool Ship’s previous location.

Another reason that we think Cool Ship is gone for good is that the Cool Ship page on the Disney World website has disappeared! When you click on the Cool Ship link for the Disney World website, it takes you straight to the new Astro Fizz page. That really confirms it for us… Cool Ship is gone forever. (Probably.)

Disney hasn’t shared an opening timeline, but they have given us a glimpse at the menu! You can try Coca-Cola, Fanta Blue Raspberry, or Fanta Orange Frozen Slushies!

They’re also adding a brand-new Cherry Cola Churro, which will be a churro rolled in cherry sugar, drizzled with Coca-Cola Cherry icing, and topped with cherry popping candies. It also wouldn’t be a Disney snack stand without popcorn, so they confirmed the popcorn will remain!

It seems like the menu will be limited to popcorn, cotton candy, slushies, and churros. This does feel like just an upgraded version of Cool Ship, but we’re still wondering what’s happened to the misters. While we are so sad to see our beloved Cool Ship fly the nest after 31 years in Tomorrowland, we are excited to see what AstroFizz brings to the table. It’s nice to have changes and updates, however, they neglected to mention that this new venue will NOT accept the dining plans. It’s too bad, people plan and save all year for their vacations and try to manage their budgets by purchasing the dining plans knowing that their food will be paid for. Disney is expensive enough to have to pay for more extras for your family once you are there.
